How does a "deletionist" lose if the bad content or lack of content is replaced or supplemented with good content?
Nominating something for deletion should be motivated by a desire to improve the encyclopedia, not focused on whether any one specific action is taken.
From what I've seen, Tony's comments in AfD debates have referenced
winning over delete voters, not winning "against deletionists".
Again, assume good faith; "win-win" is the goal. This isn't a zero sum game.
