Anyone else think it would be good to be able to refine a linksearch by namespace? Or can this be done with black magic already?

It can be done with google specials I am guessing.
I use 'site:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User: "blah" ' when I want to search just user pages. Not sure how you would do it with article space though.

He's referring to Special:Linksearch.

Sorry, my bad.
Google doesn't let you put its link: and site: modifiers together in any useful way for this purpose anyhow.

I'm not aware of any current black magic solutions to sort by namespace, unfortunately, although it seems like Javascript would proooobably be up to the task. I'd also be intrigued if we could sort Special:Whatlinkshere results by namespace.
Unfortunately, I know next to no JS. :p

OK. Time for a feature request, then.

Wow, has this not been requested yet? It would be really useful, I think.

Possibly. I do remember when people were asking for the ability to filter the watchlist and contributions by namespace, I was hoping all the relevant special pages, including Whatlinkshere and Relatedchanges, would get it. That doesn't quite seem to have happened, though. There's probably a Bugzilla request for it lying forgotten somewhere.

Yes, please. The To do sections some WikiProject templates have and similar templates like Opentask result in huge amounts of irrelevant links appearing in Whatlinkshere. For example, it is practically impossible to find out what articles link to a requested article listed on a WikiProject template, since the irrelevant links completely overwhelm the relevant ones. Similarly, it is impossible to advertise a WP:DPL disambiguation page that needs its incoming links fixed on an opentask template, as this produces huge amounts of irrelevant links. If we could filter the links by namespace, all these problems would go away.

Oh come on, surely you can work it out from that blinking orange bar of death... :)
