Sorry if this is something I should know already.
I find it tedious to keep watch over my talk pages at en.wiki, commons, wikiquote, etc. I was thinking that a nice facility would be if all my talk pages could be in my watchlist at en.wiki. Then whenever I'm in en.wiki, which is most of the time, I will see that one of my other talk pages has been editted.
Is this possible? Plausible?
Zero.

There are various tools around that will automatically monitor the pages of your choice on the web, wherever they are. I think there are even tools that turn those changes into an RSS thread.
Actually, for that matter, I have a vague recollection MediaWiki can generate an RSS feed from changes to pages, but I can't find any more info on that atm.

What many editors do is put a soft redirect on their other pages, asking that questions be put on [[en:User_talk:Userid]]. If we ever get SSO this may get workable.

The various Wikia Wikis have an option in preferences under "User profile > E-mail":
E-mail me on page changes E-mail me wheb my user talk page is changed E-mail me also for minor edits of pages Enable e-mail from other users
The second option is of particular interest. I use it on my two rarely-visited Wikia Wikis, and it's worked for the one user talk message I've received since enabling it. I'm assuming this feature is being beta-tested in Wikia and will eventually make its way to Wikipedia and the various sister projects.

I looked at my accounts. Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Wikibooks don't have the option, while Wikia and Meta do. I think it's just a matter of what version of MediaWiki is being run.

This is a standard option in MediaWiki, not something specific to Wikia. A few Wikimedia wikis run it (meta and board). I don't know why it isn't used everywhere since it's an incredibly useful feature.
An alternative is to get the rss feed of all your talk pages and aggregate them. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Angela&action=histor...

So it's not the version of MediaWiki, but rather, a standard feature that you have to enable in the config file?

It is partly the version since it was only introduced in 1.5, but it can be enabled by adding something like $wgEnotifUserTalk = true; to the LocalSettings file (see the mediawiki-l list for more details).

I suspect that this idea may be easier to implement once single sign-on is active. This should not prevent us from having separate talk pages on each project that interests us.

Mm. I tend to note on my talk pages elsewhere to leave me messages on my en: talk page so I'll ever see them.
Wikia has almost-single-signon, I think - most of the Wikias share a login database. Uncyclopedia is separate, I think Memory Alpha is separate.
This is one for wikitech. Hey, is there any likelihood of RSS feeds or email being switched on any time, just in case you feel like there isn't enough smoke coming out of the servers?

I thought Uncyclopedia and Memory Alpha were non-Wikia?

Uncyclopedia is now owned by Wikia (Chronarion finally sold Wikia the domain name and whatever rights attach to the uncyclopedia.org trademark - though the word "uncyclopedia" may not be TMed and the puzzle potato logo is someone else's, and etc and blah, it's all pretty vexed, see http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/DUMP for unedifying heat rather than light). It's been hosted by Wikia since mid last year, and now it's officially part of Wikia. But it still operates pretty much separately as a community, so it's kept its own user database and search database.

There is a great deal of personal preference involved. Sometimes the things that people add on talk pages aren't very clear. :-) By having separate pages for each project I at least have a clue regarding what project they're talking about. :-)
