Can we get rid of spoiler warnings for plots in novels, movies, etc.?
I doubt anyone cares (and doubt that they don't know) that King Kong falls off the Empire State Building, or that Darth Vader is Luke's father.
Another reason...the infinitely wiser Germans have sensibly gotten rid of them and for good reasons.

In a word: no. This comes up every six months or so.
A few people don't like them (we can ad you to the list), but most people do.
I wonder if we should have a "frequently discussed-to-death issues" list somewhere, with answers, (sort of like [[WP:VPE]]) so that we don't have to keep rehashing them?
(Although, I suppose the people who don't like spoilers do have an argument in favor of bringing it up again and again -- after all, it worked for the people who didn't like GNAA...)

Those who dislike spoilers can add "#spoiler {display: none}" to their monobook.css.

My problem with them is when the spoiler message comes at the start of the plot synopsis. Sorry but there should always be a spoiler-less opening paragraph explaining the plot as described in the film blurb (or whatever). Otherwise they lose their purpose.

Yeah. Those who treat "plot" as synonymous with "spoiler" are missing the point. For an average novel or movie, perhaps 70-80% of the plot can be described without really "spoiling" anything. Then the "spoiler" could be just a paragraph or even a sentence or two.
