I misread that for a second as "the value of responding to these trolls", which sums it all up really.
The Register is a whore; it'll do anything so long as it makes money - i.e. gets the site noticed and visited, which gets visitors to read the ads and pay the bills. Their credibility is significantly less than Wikipedia's, even by THEIR opinion of Wikipedia.
