That explains the last two changes in Jimmy's user rights (the log, for some reason, appears in my watchlist?). Jimmy - did you find anything useful while checkusering jimmyflathead, and were you asked to do that by anyone in particular? Granted, you probably can't say on either one. Interesting question for another day, though... Does the WMF grant users privacy rights post-mortem?

I don't know if JW will see this thread, but he's responded to some of this on-wiki at [[User talk:Jimbo Wales]].

Just in the case Jimmy doesn't see this thread. Yes we got the news and Jimmy checked if he had used other accounts to do edit and if so what he had editted, just in the case that some media would ask we got prepared. But he found nothing.
And yes, nowaday editing Wikipedia is so mainstream like having a facebook account.

I wonder mainly about the second part of the question. Should board members be granting themselves checkuser permission to perform investigations on users without first getting approval from the board as a whole or the staff? I'd say most certainly not, and that this is a good reason to remove "founder" permissions.
Jimmy isn't in charge of dealing with the press. If journalists ring his phone off the hook he should refer them to a staff member.
Its getting to the point where it is newsworthy if someone /hasn't/ edited Wikipedia.
