No it didn't work. There was no nuclear war, but there were plenty of fair sizable non-nuclear wars -- the US in Vietnam and the Russians in Afghanistan spring to mind -- and the number of civilian casualties (sorry, "collateral damage") runs into millions.

That was a completely relevant comment. Someone was making an anology to MAD, saying that that helped (and that was their entire argument, pretty much), but that was a bad anology and therefore a bad argument. I don't think any case of supposed mutually assured destruction could be beneficial. LDan
