I suspect your message was the inspiration for the essay; it was an example of how sometimes admins can become opposed or unpopular through no fault of their own, and how this can have consequences for them either on Wikipedia or in real life.
As for why he quoted it *above* his message, it's because he knows how to send emails. *Please* stop top-posting.
