I guess I'm a horrible person, because after I headed over to their userpage after reading the discussion on ANI and saw the massive sign:

stating their intentions, I cracked up laughing. I doubt this person is a serious risk, however, I suppose we should try and contact the appropriate people as a matter of precaution... and if this is indeed just a cry for attention being contacted by people in the real world (i.e. the police) about it should teach them not to do it again ;)

If you're a Chicago resident, please see WP:ANI "PatPeters" thread - we have a user who threatened suicide. Someone should notify Chicago PD, but I can't find any out-of-area contact numbers to use to call them.
If we have anyone in Chicago reading, please read the ANI thread and then call 3-1-1 and let Chicago PD know about the situation...
I've had friends and relatives working crisis hotlines and mental health hotlines. The procedure is, if someone says they're going to, take them at their word and get them intervention. Particularly if they admit or self-identify as depressed and think about suicidal stuff a lot.
Every now and then you find someone who's just joking. A lot of them are not-really-serious-suicidal-but-need-to-talk-to-someone. A lot of them are suicidal. Only a moderate fraction intend to do so immediately, but enough do that you have to take them all seriously.
I just tried the 312-747-6000 external contact number for Chicago PD and got nothing. Still seeking a local in the area who can dial 3-1-1 and get the PD that way...
