I still don't think that it'd be the best of ideas to shut down the entire Wiki - if you wanted to give everyone a break, then around the new year would be a better time. Perhaps stopping anon edits for the day and giving warning about no excessive April foolery.
That aside, I think that the featured article should be either a well written, convincing hoax or a well written fact pretending to be a hoax. The Monty Python eyes were good as well, but besides that, the excessive madness that was the mainpage just spoiled it a bit.
