-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1
Yes (incidentally I'm using Thunderbird with Enigmail too) but my point was that if the mailing list _server_ stripped out the footers _after_ the user had signed the message, if the footers were included in the signed part of the message (most packages, Enigmail included afaik, sign the entire message by default including any quoted part of replies) then the signature would return an error by checked by the user at the other end
Cynical

Because any modification of the message post-sending would royally screw any digital signing of the message (which me, Alphax, and a couple of other people use on this list) which relies on a hash computed at the time of sending by the user's encryption program
For what it's worth my mail client (Thunderbird with the EnigMail plugin) figures it out just fine. It highlights the part of the message that has been signed. On this list, that doesn't include the footer.
