That is not relevant to my point. My point is that if only admins can do a merge, than we have failed. Merging is an editorial job, it should be done by editors. It has nothing to do with being an admin or not, which is a janitorial function, having little to do with editorial functions.
Our task is supposed to be a project which any responsible person can edit. To state that a task like this can only be done by admins, is not an acceptable position.
