Fair use is for commentary and criticism. In an ideal form, a Wikipedia article with photos of Mickey might count as "commentary".
There was a political cartoon in this morning's Sacramento newspaper with images of Mickey and Minnie Mouse dicussing the latest news of mouse genes being transplanted into a human. That would apparently fall under fair use.
It should be allowable as parody, about which there was a case.
There could be a situation where a human baby born with MM type ears would violate someone's patent. :-)
