I have edited the article about the "alt.usenet.kooks" newsgroup to clarify the fact that Wikipedia is not labelling anybody. The label of "kook" is now attributed to that newsgroup's subscribers.
Particularly galling may have been the article's sympathetic adoption of the newsgroup's POV. It referred to the label (in positive terms) as an "award". This has been changed in two places: (1) to the neutral term "label" and (2) to the negative term "branded".
Moreover, a polite note assures readers that Wikipedia does not endorse but merely reports - a fact which may be lost to those who are not avid students of Wikipedia's neutrality policy.
