Hmm -- I do not really see the difference? Most filters are optional, at least for adults.
Well, I guess this is partly just a terminological difficulty.
I think we're both opposed to a system whereby Wikipedia is by default "cleansed" according to some ambiguous and amorphous standards. We don't want to place silly obstacles in the path of people seeing the whole encyclopedia, as it is written by the wiki process, even if some of the content might be considered by some to be inappropriate for children, or whatever.
At the same time, I think we both agree that it'd be nice if end users were able to very simply configure their "view" of the encyclopedia to take out material that they find objectionable.
