In the August 2 database dump, I believe there are around 2,052,140 of them. That's "articles" that match /#REDIRECT\s*[[(.*)]]/i in the main namespace.
In the main namespace of the enwiki-20070908.xml dump there was exactly 1.612.641 redirects.
Total number of redirects in all namespaces was 2.216.516
Only the last revisions was counted, since only the last revision represents the actual status.
The validity of the target pages for the redirects were not checked.
