Assuming you can all tear your minds away from attack sites, here's a bit of spam to keep everyone occupied. http://en.veropedia.com/ is now up, running and live, and searching for contributors.
You can read the FAQ at http://en.veropedia.com/docs/faq.html , but the basic idea is to get stable, academically-reviewed versions of the best of Wikipedia, and restore the prestige among schools, universities, and academia in general, of deserving Wikipedia articles that have been unfortunately tarred with the same brush that damns the popcruft crap that clogs up 90 percent of enwiki. Veropedia is not a wiki, and all articles have to meet exacting standards before upload. As a practical manner, this means the corresponding Wikipedia article gets a hell of a lot better as it is improved during the pre-upload process. Please do read the FAQ before replying to this post.
Those interested can visit our IRC channel, #veropedia, or use the contact info provided. Those who want the fast-track route to an account can email me, though I might occasionally demand an ounce of flesh or so in return:)
If Wikipedia had gone down the road of fitting in a proper role for experts somewhere, and if proper quality controls had been in place from the start, this wouldn't be necessary. Even with stable versions, which I have no confidence the great unwashed of enwiki will accept, I do not think the numerical majority of Wikipedia articles will get to an acceptable, Vero-worthy standard this side of the next millenium.
With all due respect,
Moreschi
