You appear to think that respecting someone's opinions means you have to agree with their opinions. This is not the case. It is possible to disagree with someone's opinions and still respect their opinions. Saying that you respect someone, but you don't respect their opinions is just empty posturing.
Religious beliefs, for example. I might disagree strongly with someone over what they believe, but that doesn't mean that I don't respect their beliefs.
Beliefs are generally held to be stronger than opinions, but I can still respect someone's right to hold and defend their opinion.
