Hi,
Newly available to buy online for only 25 euros: Kiwix with all articles of Wikipedia in French on one USB stick (with a lot of additional free softwares). http://enventelibre.org/produit/framakey-wikipedia
Done in collaboration with Wikimedia France and Framasoft (blog posts in French): * http://blog.wikimedia.fr/cle-framakey-wikipedia-5053 * http://www.framablog.org/index.php/post/2012/10/08/framakey-wikipedia

Wonderful! After reading the specifications it sounds even better, with all that portable free software and 15 free GiB. It's only slightly more expensive than the cheapest 32 GiB pen drives around. I also like the "homemade" distribution on enventelibre, will there be also a more traditional one? Did you choose to leave a lot of free space on purpose (you can use it daily for many purposes rather than forget it in a drawer) or were 16 GiB not enough for the needed stuff?

Let us know of the results. Oh, and who's taking the publishing responsibility if such a thing exists in France? Is Framasoft a publisher?

The Ubuntu-remix USB key contains a "traditional" live and installable instance of Ubuntu with a few additional contents.

16 GB were not enough for the full Wikipedia in French.

I'm not able to answer this question.

Hi Emmanuel,
May you point us to somebody who can?
Cristian p.s.: Sadly, also my second track for mirroring Kiwix seems to lead nowhere... =(

Hi Emmanuel,

This is not a discussion topic we have had during the project elaboration. I guess the other partners can not help you more.
I personally consider, there is no publishing work as the content is exactly the same as online. It's like an offline proxy or something similar, there is no publisher.

Sad :(

You can ask to Adrienne on the Wikimédia France mailing list, since you're a subscriber there (IIRC). Or to Alexis Kaufmann, the person behind Framasoft, who collaborated on this:

Thanks for the pointers, Bastien.

And when I say "nowhere" I mean "I haven't got even an e-mail reply!" =(
