Hi,
I wanted to ask what the current status of the WIWOSM project [1] is. It seems that there hasn't been a data update since March 2015 as reported via [2, 3].
Is this due to technical problems or does the project lack of maintainers?
Thanks in advance and best regards from Austria, Simon

Hello, WIWOSM was updated after the request last week manually. (Thanks to User:Master.) We will have to work now to perform the updates again automatically. The problem seem that the server behind the scheduler reacts different than the local server for manually updates.
@Simon: If you have a labs account, it would not wrong to have with you one maintainer more.
Best regards Kolossos

Tim, do you have any thoughts on how we could bring WIWOSM capabilities to production (Kartotherian)?
Also, I posted some thoughts on what functionality the <map> tag https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Kartographer could support within Wikipedia articles.
Thanks!

Hello Yuri, do you mean WIWOSM, which is only the layer to highlight one OSM object in the map called OSM-Gadget or do you mean the whole map with all layers?
I think the whole map application (OSM-Gadget) should someone rewrite in OpenLayers3 or Leaflet. Especially support for mobile should be better and the mediawiki-integration like you mension in "Kartographer".
The layer "Wikipedia-world" in this map that show different Wikipedia-objects on the map should also get an rework to switch to Wikidata and get more often updates. Problems are that some objects are missing in Wikidata and other solutions like nearby-search are not working on low zoom-levels.
WIWOSM contains on the user-side mostly static files and 10 lines of php so it should be relative easy to transfer or rsync it to production server to avoid privacy problems. For the OSM-Gadget I can say someone with better JavaScript skills than I should work on it. And for the Wikipedia-World layer it needs an Database or an other storage solution, an update process and script to handle user requests, so it seem a lot of work to transfer it to production.

I started an implementation based on Leaflet: https://github.com/simon04/osm-gadget-leaflet/ Test links are provided in the repository.
By default, it displays the Wikimedia Maps background. Besides, OSM is available. More backgrounds are to come (should we copy the list of the current gadget?).
It fetches parses the URL hash to obtain query parameters and fetches the WIWOSM object.
Also, it displays displaying other articles in the surrounding using the https://tools.wmflabs.org/wp-world/marks-geojson.php service. To ease development, it would be great if wp-world/marks*.php would send a `Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *` header. The GeoJSON variant returns less information than the default (KML) variant, e.g., the image and map icon are missing.

Hello, the leaflet-plugin seems a good starting point.
As background-layers I see hikebikemap, öpnv-map (public transport) and tiles from osm.org as fallback. Hillshading is really nice but should get an update with higher resolution and full coverage of the world.
Aerial images would be nice, but it seems that opengeoserver doesn't to work anymore. Germany-Layer seems not really important in my eyes.
I added the header you like and will add two parameters for "image" and "map" until tommorow.
Regards Tim

"server behind the scheduler" is the tools.wmflabs.org server?

My labs account name is simon04.
Where is the latest source code of the OSM-Gadget located? https://github.com/aiomaster/WIWOSM/tree/master/client seems rather out of date.

Hello, I add you as maintainer and updated Github. Tim
