Hey ho!
Finally, after the last import got interrupted, we got a fresh planet import on cassini with the additional fields. It took around 28 hours because of the new text-fields, i think. As cassini has no java, I can't run osmosis and start the diff imports, but as river & marcin agreed on a plan to make ptolem the new toolserver-db, we should maybe wait for this to happen before putting any more work in cassini.
The script I did the import with can be fetched from here: http://cassini.toolserver.org/~mazder/planet-update
Maybe it will be helpful un ptolemy, too.

there might be some delay on this as WM-DE want to consider other options first (like adding additional disk space to cassini).

Okay, so I opened a ticket in jira to install java on cassini [1]. I think the tasks we're setting up on cassini now may be useful on ptolemy later as well.
There still seems to be a problem with mod_tile and renderd:
mod_tile is only returning cached tiles like [2] while a direct rendering with mapnik produces better translated images with data from the current import [3]. mod_tile reports those cached tiles as "due to be rendered" [4] but it won't get rendered.
Unfortunately the mappers group doesn't have access to /var/log/apache2/error.log anymore (only to /var/log/apache2/error.log.1) so I can't see what's going on with renderd.

Thanks very much, with this, I was able to play with my map without needing changes. I haven't really used renderd before, so I used tilelite for experimenting. Would you mind hanging out in IRC sometime? I'm cmarqu in #osm, #osm-de, #mapnik and #wikimedia-toolserver.
Cheers Colin

Of course not :) Atm I'm not really often in irc, mostly only when I need some help with a special topic. I'll have to train myself to go there more often.
I'm currently setting up replication-diff updates. Cassini is importing 1 hour of changes in about 4 minutes, so I'll have the task run in 10 minute windows (it locks itsself from running two times in parallel). As there are 4 days remaining I think we should be up2date in about 16 hours.
