WMDE paid for "A Map Toolserver" and got me to admin it. I only agreed to admin it because I needed some hardware to test the MediaWiki embedding of OpenStreetMap maps, I really don't have time to properly do it, nor am I familiar enough with the Toolserver cluster/procedures to do it in the time that I have.
perhaps it would be a good idea to integrate cassini as a Toolserver database (like the MySQL ones). i would be quite happy to take over general admin work and database maintenance for it, as long as someone else can handle the OSM-specific bits (i have no idea how that works).
this would require that it run Solaris, as all our install/admin infrastructure is set up for this. if user tools were moved to other servers, i assume this wouldn't make much difference; PostgreSQL should be much the same everywhere.
So who needs to give the OK before we can do things as you suggest?
from our side, nothing needs to be done; it should already be possible for people to start running OSM tools on the TS login/web servers. i don't know what needs to be done on cassini to make this work, though.
