Of tangential interest: http://bayimg.com/
Apparently "completely uncensored". ("We will not remove any pictures
that are just immoral or in any way legal to host under Swedish law."
- well, still seems like they'll have a lot of removing to do, to me.)
They use a tag system - e.g. http://bayimg.com/tag/background .
uploading is ultra quick.

They've just been waiting in a mountain for the right moment:
http://modernthings.org/
I just tried sending a permission email to an author, but I have a
feeling she's not going to say yes :(. Anyways, thats not what this
email is about.
The images still havn't appeared on commons ticker. I'm very anxious
to try and figure out which ones affect wikinews. (not that I hope all
of them are saved, but i'm most concerned with the images used on
wikinews). If anyone would be able to figure out how to make them all
appear, it would be appriciated. Thanks.

This may be of interest to some.
"At its annual general meeting held in Tokyo last week, more than 50
IPTC [International Press Telecommunications Council] delegates from
around the world unanimously approved publication of the Photo
Metadata White Paper. It outlines photo work flow at many types of
agencies that buy, sell and use images, and offers crucial suggestions
for expanding the amount and types of metadata that are embedded in
photos. The white paper targets the entire photo industry, not just
journalists."

Can you guys put some deletion template (or category) in the sxc
template so that all those images show up in commonsTicker? This way,
us at various other projects will see the list, and be scared to
death, but we'd know what is happening better.

Hello,
May I remind you all that within a week, all images from SXC.hu that
are not explicitly licensed under a free license, may be deleted.
Please try to contact as many authors as possible to obtain a free
license. I have contacted all authors of Featured Pictures, but I
cannot do all ~1000 images.
For more information, please see [[Category:Sxc-warning]].

Hi!
After playing a little bit with 3D building models in Google Earth...
I remember there was discussion about 3D formats some time ago on
Commons Village Pump. I think will be good idea to return to this
subject.
Just imagine chemistry-related articles with 3D models instead of
current 2D (see
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Benjah-bmm27)...
Indeed, I know about SUL fate... From other side Commons:Geocoding
show promising results.
With best regards,
Eugene.
(Apologies is the following suggestion has been made before.)
There has been much said about the duplication of effort by
maintaining a gallery and a category for a single topic. It was said
to abolish the one or the other, to no avail, as both have their use:
* Categories are good for organizing things in a hierarchical order,
which can be done on the image page, and not on some remote place
(gallery page)
* Galleries are good for structuring files of a topic while
maintaining that these files "belong together" on a single page
Suggestions towards replacing both with some tagging system have been
rather vague and far-in-the-futurish (at least, implementation-wise).
As an intermediate measure, I propose something like this: When
viewing a gallery page, MediaWiki checks if there is a category of the
same name. If this is the case, it adds a new section to the gallery
page (dynamically for viewing, not altering the source text!), showing
all the images in the category that are /not/ already shown in the
gallery. The section could be called "Other", "Misc", "Additional" or
the like. That way, the user would always see all images on the topic
when visiting the gallery page; it would also allow editors to see
what new images to the topic should be included into the gallery.
This should be relatively easy to implement (maybe including a new
magic word to prevent this mechanism on certain gallery pages). I
could throw some JavaScript at it, but I'd prefer an internal
solution, if this feature would be wanted.
The reverse mechanism (display all images from the gallery page in the
category) might be more problematic, as images from navigational
elements could show up in the category. However, it might become a
toolserver toy ("what images in a gallery are not in the matching
category?").
Thought? Comments? Bullets? ;-)

As you might, or might not know, I have been quite busy with Flickr
lately, especially with [[User:FlickreviewR]]. I have written two
tools (or actually, one tool with two functions) with helps Commons
users with images for Flickr.
The first is a database of all images reviewed images from Flickr:
http://tools.wikimedia.de/~bryan/flickr/browse You can search on nsid,
username, photo_id, link, and Commons image. The database contains
over 28,000 images, which is over 70% of the total number of Flickr
images on Commons :) [1]
Now the second tool is really handy (imho ;P). It allows you to easily
upload images from Flickr:
http://tools.wikimedia.de/~bryan/flickr/upload :) All images uploaded
by this tool are guaranteed to be tagged under a free Creative Commons
license at upload time. Hopefully this will make it easier to upload
images from Flickr, reduce the number of copyvios and make sure that
only hi res images are uploaded.
All images are still in beta; by using this tools you are subject to
the Commons Licensing and Project scope policies, etc. etc.; Please
report errors to [[User talk:Bryan]]. If you find any security bug in
the upload part, the bot that performs the uploads and to be blocked
is Flickr_upload_bot.
:D,
Bryan
[1] I do have a database of more than 95% of all Flickr images, but a
lot of them are unreviewed. Human reviewed images are daily added to
the database.
hello,
i will appreciate if one admin who is not a close friend of guillom
agrees to discuss/review my ban on commons.
without warning i consider the ban unjustified.
thanks,
azdiyy
This fits in somewhat with the recent discussion about fotonotes and image
tagging.
The video: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/129
This technology takes thousands of images and combines them into an
exploreable image, where you can zoom in and explore buildings with each
individual image tagged and containing information that is accessible. The
creator of the technology used flickr to gather images for his
demonstration; we need to introduce this guy to Commons! He was talking
about how more information would be available - Commons images tend to have
far more info than photographs on flickr, and we would be a better source of
images with detailed information and data.
It's a fascinating demo, I hope this becomes widespread; if we can get
involved somehow all the better. Enjoy.
