Dearest friends,
It is with deep sadness that I inform this group of the sudden death of our fellow classmate, Rob Lallier, summer class of 1975. He passed away unexpectedly on the evening of 5/21/21 in Austin. He is survived by his daughter, stepchildren, and a host of friends who will miss him.
I can still hear Rob giving the “rotten orange” speech as Claudio to Carol as poor Hero. Claudio was never the brightest, but gosh, Rob was so handsome in that sky blue silk peasant shirt. Doc recalls Rob as Ancient Pistol, swaggering in the Henry IV, Part II tavern scene with Terry Galloway as Bardolf. They were memorably crazy and outrageous. I was Falstaff and all I had to do was step aside and give them a very wide berth. Such lovely memories.
"When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past.”
Rob, Carol, Laura, Buddy, and I formed our Winedale 1975 book club eleven years ago. Rob was quite the reader, always picking interesting and sometimes challenging books. We were to gather at Rob’s house in two weeks for our first in person gathering since the pandemic to discuss “Hamnet.” We will still meet, but at Carol and Sam’s, instead to share our favorite memories of Rob.
I am not aware of plans for services at this time but will keep you all posted as details emerge.
Take care dear ones. Your friend,
Jerald
Oh Jerald, No! I can't stand it. He was indeed so handsome as Claudio and I loved playing with him as Pistol. We egged each other on. I'm heartbroken as I know so many will be. Sad and terrible news. I love you, Jerald. I loved Rob. No, I LOVE Rob. Love should never be past tense. Terry

What terrible news. There was noone sweeter or more soft spoken or more poetic in my lifetime. We who knew him are bereft beyond words. m

We are all too young for these many disappearances to have happened to our class.
Rob was the only truly forgiveable Claudio I ever saw. Too sweet by half not to have been welcomed back in the end, no arrogant residue clinging. Other Claudios have been too quick to forgive themselves. And Carol with Rob in their roles: they embraced knowing they truly belonged together in the end.
I am glad I got to see Rob a couple of times in the last few years, although not for long enough.
Book group intimates, please know I hate for you to have the forcoming regular lack of Rob appearances in your book group. I hope very much that he got to the end of Hamnet. It was my favortite book of the year. I would love to know how you all took it, and how you think Rob would have talked about it, that novel being such a treausre for a group founded in Shakespeare.
Thank you Jerald, for your dear words. I will look forward to notice of when we can send condoling notes.
Love to all of you.
Carpe diem.
Alice
I guess I felt the devastation-of-his-mistake while the scene unfolded around the altar.
