There are a couple of repeat scenes from prior videos, notably the “Cookoo” song, but that performance deserves an encore and a loud “Bravo!” I wish I could say the jittery nature of the video was my intent to achieve the hand held effect of cinema verite’, or that I was trembling with excitement while taping, but it was just poor technique on my part. Sergio did the best he could with what he had.

Dear folks,
David Ziegler and I are planning to migrate this mailing list to
another service, probably Google Groups, sometime this year. (This is
mainly because the mailing list is hosted right now with an employer I
left back in 2010 -- they've been generous, and they're not rushing
us, but at some point this year there will be a management change
there, and we shouldn't assume we'll always have them hosting
Winedale-l.)
It would help us if you sent your email contact info (and how you
want to be listed by name, etc.) to dzieglersf(a)gmail.com and
mnemonic(a)gmail.com -- if you want to do it privately or include folks
here on the public list, either is fine with me.
For those who may be amused by such things, Godwin's Law gets yet
another reference by Paul Krugman of the New York Times this week:
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/01/30/godwin-help-us/?smid=tw-Nytimes…
. This has to do with venture capitalist Tom Perkins's notion,
advanced in the Wall Street Journal over the last weekend, that the
United States is persecuting its rich people in the same ways the
Nazis persecuted the Jews. (He referenced Kristallnacht specifically.)
(No, I couldn't believe it either.) (Perkins is a founder of Kleiner
Perkins Caulfield & Byers, which made me think this was just Eine
Kleiner Kristallnachtmusik.)
Love to all,
--Mike
How fabulous! My heart is beaming with happiness for you all!
I also enjoyed catching up with Rip Esselstyn (after 28 years) during a Portland showing of Forks Over Knives last week. His presentation style on the benefits of a plant-strong diet after the film was just as you'd expect: easy-going and inspirational. I still remember him pouring apple juice instead of milk over his oats at Winedale.
Light and love,
Claire

We put in some long days and I would come out of the theater into the 9 degree weather on some days and think it was hard, but then I'd remember you saying Doc, that it wasn't hard work, just long work. Then I'd realize how privileged I was to have the opportunity to do it. Though the climate was very different from Winedale up there, I certainly felt inspired by my Winedale experiences.

Lincoln Center is telling us that tickets on the website appear to be sold out for the rest of the run, but that they release extra tickets 48 hours before each performance. Also we have a limited number of house tickets available to us. You have to pay for those still, but they are only $20 each. If you are interested in trying to get a house ticket or two you can email me off this list and I can arrange them for you.

Check out the "T Magazine" in the Arts section of the Times on the

will find Michael's wonderful daughter, Kate Barker Froyland, talking
about her new film, "Song One."

Watching the Golden Globes last night , was that our friend receiving a kiss from the exquisite Cate Blanchett as she accepted the award for best actress? Did you really ply her with the Garland cocktail. I know I speak for all, job well done. Now the Oscars.

The parade of bumblers continued, interrupted only by clever remarks from presenters Jim Carrey and Robert Downey, Jr., and graceful acceptances by Cuarón, DiCaprio and McConaughey, who said he was glad the long-gestating Dallas project ”got passed on so many times, or it wouldn’t have come to me.” By this point, simple rhetorical competence could bring tears of gratitude to the home viewer. Samberg, a winner for the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, got laughs with a deadpan delivery of the boilerplate speeches so many of his predecessors had flailed through. Blanchett managed to apply her regal presence to an improv on the show’s abiding theme — alcohol — by thanking Michael Barker and Tom Bernard, Blue Jasmine’s sponsors at Sony Pictures Classics, for “plying me with vodka the way Judy Garland was probably plied with barbiturates.”

Thanks James...I met Betsy when we did the 2000 reunion and just visited with her at Doc's birthday this year. How very sad...she did so love Winedale. Let me know of the plans for this summer and if you need any help. Lynn

Hello friends,
I am afraid I have to pass along some sad news about an old Winedaler. Betsy Beyer Hadlock (summer 1981) died a couple of months ago in Dallas; her family posted this news on her Facebook page last week. I really don't have too much information beyond what they state there. My sister managed to find a police report indicating that she was found in her condo and the cause of death was listed as unknown. Betsy had struggled a lot with mental illness for several years.
Betsy loved Shakespeare and Winedale as much as she loved anything in her life. I'm sure anyone who was in the 2000 reunion class with her will remember how much it meant to her. We will do something to memorialize her this summer at Winedale. Tomorrow would have been her birthday, so please have her in your thoughts.
Thanks,
James
