Dear all,
I have some sad news. Nancy Hellinghausen, summer of 1986, passed away on Thursday after a short but brave fight with pancreatic cancer. Some of you may remember Nancy as the beautiful Princess in Love's Labour's Lost, among her other roles that summer.
Nancy, who was diagnosed with the cancer just after Christmas, was surrounded by her husband, Allan Brown, and her brothers and sisters when she died.
After 25 years, Nancy still counted among her best friends those she had met at Winedale, and some of us were able to spend time with her recently to say good bye. That the friendships we forge in the barn can endure for a lifetime is another testament to Doc and the power of Shakespeare.
Here is the funeral information from the family, but please feel free to email me if you knew Nancy and would like more information:
Arrangements have been made for a vigil at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1906 West Texas Ave, Midland, TX, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. The funeral mass for Nancy will be held at the same location on Wednesday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow in the Parlor Annex.
My best to all of you,
Jayne Noble Suhler (86, 87, reunions 95, '05, '10)

Thanks Kathy and Jayne. I remember her vividly from those indelible performances in '86 and I'll always regret I never had the opportunity to know her better. I remember many wonderful and very funny stories about her from you two, Mark Bouler, David and others. An amazing woman.

Being from a much earlier time, I never knew her, but from the way those who did describe her, the world will obviously miss her. May she rest in peace. Jan Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

What a lovely obituary. Even without having known her one can see she was one of the seekers who found the way to Sh at Winedale to discover their best selves waiting to emerge there.
Thank you all for telling us of Nancy. Thank you Doc for putting us all together in literature and love.

Agree, Alice. On all points. I never met Nancy and missed the '86 plays by two years, yet it felt as if I were reading about a friend and could picture her on the stage. Angela

UT Southwestern Medical Center The future of medicine, today.
Nancy just made you feel good to be around; she had both an easy, infectious smile and a sharp wit. She could be tough, but was also very sensitive. She was indeed serious about the life of the mind, but didn't take herself or her beauty seriously. She seemed very authentic to me. My memory of her from that era is that she kind of glowed, with waves of blond hair, juicy lips, sparkling eyes full of humor... We spent some time together my last year, reading each other's poems, and I've never forgotten the words of support she gave me then. In another life we might have ended up together; the woman I married reminds me of her in many ways. I can't imagine how her husband feels now, but I'm sure Nancy was as wonderful a mate to him as she was a friend and inspiration to us.

I have looked at her picture several times and each time I thought I must have known her, she is so familiar. I know I saw the performances in 1986, perhaps I had met her then. Maybe we talked a while. I really can't recall. But really it was the photo and the obituary, what a smile, what a beauty, which led me to think, " Maybe I just I wish I had known her." Memories are like that. What a loss for our Winedale community, but how profound a loss for her family, and especially for her husband. I was lucky enough to have seen her performances. She was wonderful.
Every promise we gain is insurance.. Performances Try to telll us that the instant momen is permanentt. But ultimately we must lose those we treasure. I treasured Nancy's performances -- she was wonderful. The class of '86 remembers. I hope, that I was there and that I loved your performances, including Nancy's excellent performance.
I am grateful I had the chance to see Nancy perform.
