Dear Doc,
Thanks so much for your note! It means a lot to me. Yep, this is a fairly amazing
opportunity and challenge, but one that I look forward to and hope I may be able to do us
and the long-suffering people of Zimbabwe some good.
Three things you should know:
- You and our playmates at Shakespeare at Winedale have travelled with me since 1978/79 in
many forms and have been instrumental in my getting to this place in my foreign service
career;
- In the remarks I gave after having been sworn in, I said that the important things I
have done in my life have been done with others, not alone, and listed "studying
Shakespeare from inside the play in ensemble theater" as one of those things;
- Zimbabwe's recent history has all the intrigue, feisty characters, and skulduggery
of a Shakespeare history play.
So, thank you/thank you.
No plagues on any of your houses,
Bruce
