The rose bush was sourced and planted by the father of a 2008 summer student. It is a
type of rose that grows in the garden at the Shakespeare Birthplace in Stratford.

Thank you all so much for your responses and help. Laurel, that is a great idea to check
in with that store on Burnet. Thank you for offering. Leigh, I'm so glad you found a
place that makes custom chimneys, a great fallback if it comes to that. Heather, that
shape does look right...I will order one of those Dietz Globes to see if it works. Terry,
I'm excited you are working on a cabaret and will take to online sleuthing after.
Kathy, Idalia, and Emily thank you for joining the hunt. I think it would be really cool
if we find not just a suitable replacement, but two of the actual Artolier globes. Mike, I
think I'd like to find replacement globes, if possible, first before looking to
replace the lanterns. There's no rush. But you bring up an interesting point, though,
about replacement lanterns. My understanding is that the Theatre Barn is not held to the
same historical standards as other buildings on the property. I don't quite understand
why, but I am interested in learning more and will share once I do. I just love the look
of these lanterns and they do work...they just need some TLC and some missing parts.
Apparently, Winedale was rented out for a wedding at some point, and that is when the
globes on the back two lanterns were broken. So rest easy that it was not Sh@W folks that
did the breaking.
Thank you all for joining in!
On the list soon is updating the Welcome sign. That was given to Doc from the class of
1994. Doc and the class built the berm and set the posts and Susan Todd's sign shop
did the work on the sign. Susan, I'll be looking to you for advice on how best to
refurbish the sign. Does anyone know about the rose bush that grows behind the sign? That
came later. I'm wondering if there's a story connected to that rose bush.
More soon!

I did some poking around on various websites when this notice came across, and I found
myself coming up with results similar to Madge's. This led me to wonder (a) if a good
solution might be to find four matching lanterns of similar vintage and
materials--possibly from Artolier--and (b) would four lanterns of this sort be
sufficiently authentic?

Hi Madge -
There is a fantastic lamp store on Burnet Road that also has an excellent restoration
crew. I will drop by there, and see what they could do for us, or see if they have
suggestions.
Thanks,
Laurel

Subject: [Winedale-l] Artolier Corp.
Hi Friends,
The Theatre Barn at Winedale has four vintage lanterns that I'm sure you will
recognize. Two are in the front and two are in the back. Two of the four glass chimneys
are broken. Rather than replace the fixtures, I would love to track down some replacement
glass chimneys. They are an unusual size. The glass chimney says "Artolier
Corp." in cursive writing at the top of the glass. It is approximately 9" tall
with a fitted top of 4.5" and a fitted bottom of 5". Below I've pasted pics
and links of ones I've found online, but these have already been sold. Are any
Shakespeare sleuths or antique pickers out there willing to join me in this search? If we
could find them, I believe Winedale Historical Center would reimburse us for the cost.
