Like a thousand clowns jumping out of a Volkswagen beetle, Winedale
emails have been popping up in my inbox. Count me as clown no. 1001
to be included on the Winedale 40th anniversary mailing list.

Dear folks,
Now that the initial flood of acknowledgements has died down (sorry for
flooding you with email traffic on the first day or two of this mailing
list), let me update you as to where we are.
First off, although we've found lots of people who participated in Doc's
Shakespeare at Winedale program between 1970 and 2000, we haven't found
everyone. (Some names that come to mind – Nancy Paul, Bruce Wharton, Richard
South, Maria Black, Cindy Jaynes.) I'm guessing many of us here know how to
contact some of these folks. So this message aims to make it easier for us
to gather them in. Feel free to forward this message to S-at-W folks from
those years. Details about how to add them to our list (or for them to add
themselves) are included below.*
Second, I've been in touch with Doc, and he says he expects to write us in a
week or so with an outline of reunion plans. Please stay tuned to this list
for Doc's messages, for general messages to this list, and for general
planning purposes. I'm looking forward to seeing you all (I hope) this year.
Third, in the next day or two, unless you tell me otherwise, I plan to
switch this list's settings so that replies go directly to the person you're
replying to rather than to the list generally. This should also reduce any
email flood in your inboxes. Once I've done this, emails intended for the
list as a whole should be sent to
winedale-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
--Mike (read further for details about how to get other folks on this list)
* The Details:
Alums who want to add themselves to the mailing list can go to the
following link --
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/winedale-l
-- and add themselves. This link allows them to choose whether they
want to get email from the list as soon as someone sends it or to get
mail in batch/digest form (fewer emails, but you get messages later
from the list).
Individuals can also subscribe to the mailing list by send email to the
following address –
Winedale-l-request(a)lists.wikimedia.org
-- and including the word "subscribe" in the message's body or subject
header.
If they have trouble signing up, or want someone to sign up for them,
they can ask me to do that for them, and email me directly at
mnemonic(a)gmail.com
and I'll respond, generally quickly. I'm also available to
troubleshoot any problems anyone is having with the mailing list.
It should be noted that the addresses on the mailing list
can be viewed by each individual member, so that people can talk
one-on-one with each other outside the list if they wish. (This is a
good choice for people who want to reminisce or catch up but don't
want to derail discussion on the main list.)
Finally, it's probably worth mentioning that Doc (jayres(a)cvctx.com) and Stan
Kern (stan(a)texashealingarts.com) and I are trying to build an ongoing
contact list, and so any new email addresses should be sent to all three of
us for inclusion in the contact list.
--mg (mnemonic(a)gmail.com)
Mike,
Can't the individual subscribers have these emails batched in a daily
digest?

Dear folks,
As of right now, I've set the mailing list settings in a way that should
reduce traffic on the list. Specifically, I've set things so that when you
type Reply, you'll be sending email only to the particular person who sent
the message you're responding to.
To respond to the list as a whole, send mail to
winedale-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org -- alternatively, you may try typing "reply
all" (if your email program allows it), and that should work as well. From
now on folks, when we send mail to the whole list, we're doing so
intentionally (I hope).
Thanks for your patience as I iron out the bugs.

Can I get in digest mode?

I've put Caryl into "digest" mode -- she'll get collections of our mail, but usually only compiled in one email, once a day. I can do this for anyone else who asks me, or (to save me the trouble), any of you can do this yourself by logging in directly at the Winedale-l registration page, which is at
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/options/winedale-l/
But I don't think we're going to see as big a volume of email in the long run as we've seen in the past day, when so many of you (quite helpfully!) let me know that the mailing list is functioning.
