Hey all,
In case anyone wanted to see what other user groups were doing, I put
together a proposal this afternoon:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Airplaneman/Wikipedia_…
I applied as an individual grantee, as our user group does not yet have a
bank account set up to receive funds as an institution. Though I've already
sent in the proposal, I welcome any feedback, and am also willing to answer
questions on the proposal process if anyone has them.
Best,
Brian

If anone wants to apply for a Wikipedia Day rapid
grant, the WMF deadline
is Friday Nov 15 (tomorrow).
The format has changed slightly, I suggest this option fits best:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Apply#General_promotio…
Here are some examples from last year that you are free to borrow from and
remix:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/L235/Stanford_Wikipedi…
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Wikipedia_Day_Chicago_…
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Wikipedia_Day_NC_2019
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Wikipedia_Day_LA,_2019
You can mention it will be promoted to the general public via the
CentralNotice banner, and that you expect a large percentage to be
newcomers, so this is not just a meetup, as they are not funding "meetups"
per se anymore.
The amount is $500-2,000, you cannot ask for less, although sometimes
people have written a grant to cover multiple smaller events.
If the form is not 100% complete Friday for some reason, it's still better
to get it in before the deadline.
Thanks,
Richard
