Subject: [libraries] 2019 LD4 Conference: Call for Participation
To: Michelle Futornick <futo(a)stanford.edu>
(Please excuse cross-posting)
*Call for Participation*
*LD4 Conference*
*2019 May 10-11*
*Boston, Massachusetts, USA*
Linked data promises to expose the richness of library collections to the
world, and to open up new pathways to knowledge based on previously
unlinked data. After a decade of experimentation and pilot projects, what
are the next steps to move to large-scale production of linked data? How
can the library community learn from and contribute to other communities
who are working toward similar goals? The 2019 LD4 Conference, to be held
May 10-11 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, aims to bring practitioners
together to collaborate on creating pathways to implementation of linked
data in libraries.
The Program Committee invites interested practitioners to apply to
participate in this event. We especially encourage applications from
participants from groups and regions that are traditionally
underrepresented in conferences related to libraries and linked data, as
well as applications from early career professionals.
“Participation” can take many forms:
- delivering a presentation on current work
- giving a lightning talk
- leading a hands-on tutorial
- demonstrating a tool
- working on a defined project in collaborative environment
- facilitating a working session
- engaging in an in-depth discussion session
- and more
The Program Committee will select participants and will design the agenda
based on the applications received.
Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, there is
no registration fee for this conference, and a limited number of stipends
are available to make participation possible for those who would not
otherwise be able to attend.
To apply to participate (in any of the ways listed above, including
attending and engaging but not presenting or leading) please complete
the Application
to Participate
<https://stanforduniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3PHrZv1egoVwdJr> (which
includes the funding application) by February 1, 2019. The Program
Committee will notify applicants of decisions (including funding) by
February 28, 2019.
For questions about the LD4 Conference, please contact the conference
co-chairs at ld4conf_chairs(a)googlegroups.com
For more information on the event, please visit this preliminary webpage

Subject: [Wikimania-l] Update on some Wikimania preparations
To: <wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi all!
As we had the pleasure to announce in Cape Town last summer, Wikimania will
take place in Stockholm, Sweden, 14-18 August next year. Since 1 October, I
am working as Conference Manager on Wikimedia Sweden’s behalf, so if you
have any questions you may direct them to me.
The preparations have already begun, and we have some exciting pieces of
news to share with you!
Firstly, we are happy to tell that the logistical parts are all set so far.
Wikimania will take place at the Stockholm University, and the opening
ceremony will take place in the City Hall – the same room where the Nobel
Banquet is held every year! Hotels are booked for all scholarship
recipients.
The chair of the program committee has also been chosen. It will be Liam
Wyatt (Wittylama), long term Wikimedia volunteer. Any questions about the
program can be directed to him, at liamwyatt(a)gmail.com.
We are currently working hard to develop the Wikimania wiki. New for this
year is that we are developing a prototype for a reusable Wiki, to be found
under the domain ‘wikimania.wikimedia.org’. The idea is that all Wikimania
websites should be found under the same umbrella, and that the model can be
reused for each new Wikimania website. Please follow the discussions
at the talk
page <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Main_Page> of the current
landing side.
Finally, as always, we will need volunteers and ambassadors. Are you
willing to help out, physically or digitally? Please send us an email at
info(a)wikimedia.se or sign yourself up here, and we will contact you:
https://se.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2019/Volont%C3%A4rer (the address
will change when the new wiki is ready).
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for those of you celebrating, and a
happy last weeks of December for the rest of you. In Sweden, we look
forward to brighter times as we just pass the darkest day of the year.
All the best,
*Eric Luth*

O parecer do
Obviamente, estamos a redigir
Feliz Natal e Bom Ano Novo a todos!

Subject: [Wikimedia Education] nvitations to participate in a research
about Wikidata as a learning platform
To: Education ML <education(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Dear EDUWiki enthusiasts,
I have a huge favor to ask of everyone in this mailing list --
TLDR: *please fill out* *this questionnaire
<
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/%E2%80%8Bhttps://goo.gl/forms/WMFb6j2mpG2H…!
!>!*
And now in more details:
As some of you may know, I'm a PhD candidate at the School of Education,
Tel Aviv University, and my research focuses on Wikidata as a learning
platform.
To succeed in my research, I need data about how users (such as
yourselves) interact
with Wikidata, so it would be of great help if you could take the time to
fill out the questionnaire linked above.
It's estimated that it should take between 15-30 minutes, depending on how
detailed your answers would be.
I'm striving for at least 100 replies, but this is one of those cases of
"the more, the merrier", so every person filling it out is of huge help.
Please feel free to ping me privately or send me an email if you have any
questions, or if you are willing to participate in a follow up
interview (there's
also an option to mark that in the questionnaire itself).
Thanks in advance for considering filling it out. I will be forever grateful
to anyone who can help and promise to update you on my progress. :)
Cheers,
Shani.
