Hello Boston area Wikimedians!
I have an editing task for the conference that needs local assistance - if
you want to help out but only have a few minutes read on....
Our travel page needs some love:
https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2019/Travel
we need to update it with info about getting from the airport to downtown
and MIT; info on the T & charliecards, info on food in Kendall square
around campus; maps, attractions in Boston... you get the idea. Please
don't change the information on hotel discount codes, but everything else
is fair game.
You'll need to make a separate account on the wikiconference.org site but
otherwise it should be like editing any other wikimedia project. Please
let me know if you have any questions! And thank you!!!
best,
phoebe
Hello,
I just now subscribed to the Wikimedia-Boston list because, even though I have been editing Wikipedia for nearly 14 years and have lived in the Greater Boston area my entire life, I’ve never attempted to meet other Wikipedians in person because it never occurred to me that Wikipedians did so until today. I always just assumed that editors were people who edited the site in their spare time but never actually interacted with one another beyond their interactions on talk pages, and that the people who edited the site as much as I do were just lonely, depressed, and socially isolated losers like myself. But my loneliness, depression, and social isolation have become much more acute over the last year, so I'm curious, when is the next meeting? I really hope it’s soon.
Sincerely,
James Austin Hill (User:CommonKnowledgeCreator)

It's not too late to submit scholarship applications or program submissions
for WikiConference North America 2019 (Nov 8-11 in Cambridge)! The
submission deadlines for both have been extended through Sunday, Sept 22
(academic submissions are still being accepted through Sept 27).
https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2019/Scholarshipshttps://wikiconference.org/wiki/2019/Submissions
Registration has also opened! An early-bird ticket is also available
through October 13, which will save you $15:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wikiconference-north-america-tickets-681896079…
Finally, we have a travel and accommodations page up. It's a work in
progress, but we do have some lodging discounts available:
https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2019/Travel
Let us know if you have any questions, and feel free to reach out to us at
info(a)wikiconference.org.
Thank you!

Hi all,
We have had a request for childcare at the WikiConference North America
this fall (Nov 8-11) and I am trying to get a sense of how many people
might be interested in this service. Note, we don't have anything set up
yet, but I am trying to gauge interest as there are different options
depending on how many kids there are.
So, please let me know offlist if you would be potentially interested in a
conference-arranged childcare option for the weekend.
best,
Phoebe
Hi all,

Hello everyone,
I am a new Wikipedian and am interested in getting together with others in the area. I would be happy to organize a summer social gathering. I could host it at Harvard Law School, where I work. Or we could meet at my family’s place in the Monadnock area in NH. Not sure how easy that would be for people to get to.
Let me know if there is any interest in doing something mid to late August or early Sept.
Thanks!

Dear New Englanders,
WikiConference North America
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_North_America> is held in a
different city each year; this year it is coming to Cambridge in the fall.
:) We have initial venue support from MIT, and are looking for more.
Discussions so far have involved WikiConf North America members, Boston
locals, and members of the Credibility Coalition
<https://credibilitycoalition.org/> whom some of us met at a CredCo event
last fall, inspiring this year's conf-collab confab.
We could use your help making it wonderful. If you're interested, add your
name to the conference page
<https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2019/Main_Page#Team>, and comment on its talk
page <https://wikiconference.org/wiki/Talk:2019/Main_Page>. It is still
very much a draft; please add anything obvious that has been left out.
More details to come,
SJ
Update: meeting tomorrow at the Friendly Toast in Cambridge for a rare
breakfast wikimeet! Please join us if you can.

Hi all,
The Great American Wiknic is an annual project to organize wiki
get-togethers over a potluck picnic, across the country. Wikimedia New
England took last year off from the Wiknic, but let's get together this
year!
Here is a poll for weekends in July and the first weekend in August:
https://doodle.com/poll/afndyinh7mgk3bt8
If you would like to join, pick what dates you would be able to join. The
time is flexible, but afternoon seems to work well for most. We'll go to a
centrally located park - the Boston Common has worked well in the past.
Please try to vote this week, and I will send out a note announcing the
date!
best,
Phoebe
