Possible rain date and venue search for Wikipedia Takes Boston

Hi all, Current forecasts predict a 70-80% chance of rain on Sunday in Boston. If the chance of rain is still above 50% as of Friday morning, let's move the date of Wikipedia Takes Boston to next Saturday, 4/23. If folks could send a quick note on their interest/available for next Saturday, that would be great. Suggestions for other possible rain dates are welcome. In other news, we're still looking for a venue for the uploading party. Attempts to get space at MIT and BU haven't worked out thus far, and Boston Public Library is closed on Sunday per holiday observance. Being able to get space at a university seems a bit unlikely for this Sunday. But if anyone has connections to local universities and would be willing to look into reserving space for next Saturday, please let me know. If we don't end up getting a meeting room somewhere, then maybe we can head to a local restaurant that has free WiFi? Wikipedia Takes Over Boston WiFi Hotspots? I'm also going to look into reserving space at BPL for next Saturday. BPL closes at 5:00 PM on Saturdays. So if we can space there and the rain date kicks in, then we'll probably need to begin the uploading party at 4ish. In this case we would probably shift the start time to 11:30 AM instead of 12:30 PM. Best, Eric User:Emw

Hi all, A photo scavenger hunt in Boston, named *Wikipedia Takes Boston*, is in the works. The event would entail taking pictures of sights in Boston, ideally those for which photographs don't yet exist on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. For those interested: what dates would work? The April meetup sounds like it may be moved to Sunday, 4/10. That leaves weekend days of 4/9, 4/16-17 and 4/23-24 available for April. Easter is Sunday, 4/24. Given that, I'm inclined to go with Saturday 4/16 and leave the option of Sunday open in case Saturday is rainy or especially overcast. Best, Eric

STD: Boston Book Festival, October 15

I volunteered at the Boston Book Festival last year -- it's a sweet event, reminding me of literary festivals in Buenos Aires. If you haven't been before, consider going - this year it will be on Saturday, Oct 15. Last year we didn't plan any sort of Wikipedian gathering around the festival, but it would have been a fine opportunity. The crowd is an interesting mix of authors, publishers, and educators. Groups like OLPC and 826 Valencia tend to get tents on the plaza for the event, and many local authors are looking into new publishing models and other ways to share stories and knowledge. As we get better at outreach, this might be a good place to attract that crowd to work through & with Wikipedia and sister projects. The festival is supported and run by the local community -- they recruit volunteers every summer, and this month the Media Lab is sponsoring a fundraising dinner for them. Volunteering is a great way to meet the presenters; and the dinner looks pricey but fabulous. Need feedback on best date for April meetup and Wikipedia Takes Boston

Hi all, We had discussed having the April meetup on Sunday, 4/10, but that date doesn't work for some people. The Sunday after that, 4/17, seems to be the most viable alternative date. Could folks reply here with your availability on 4/10 and/or 4/17 for the April meetup and Wikipedia Takes Boston? The meetup will start at 7:00 PM; Wikipedia Takes Boston is scheduled to run from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Note that Wikipedia Takes Boston will be held the same day as the April meetup (i.e., if the date for the April meetup changes to 4/17, so will the date for Wikipedia Takes Boston.) Arranging a place for the meetup and sending out a geonotice are pretty contingent on having a date nailed down, so quick feedback is appreciated. Eric (User:Emw)
