Dear all,
We in Macedonia have request from Wikipedians photographers: in the list
of natural heritage recognized by the law, to add "other" - beauty of the
nature, which are not include in the list.
Is it OK with the rules of the contest?
Regards,
Zana
Hello Beppo & all,
Later this evening and tomorrow I am fully focussed on getting everything ready. This concerns the upload wizards and upload campaigns.
If anyone has questions or notes problems, the fastest way to reach me is at IRC with the nick Romaine. You can find me in the channel #wikilovesearth at freenode, webchat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=%23wikiloveasearth

Hello Romaine,
you helped us with WLM Central Notice last year and we
met at WikiCon in Karlsruhe. Many thanks again for your
help.
Austria will take part in Wiki Loves Earth this year.
The upload for the contest begins as of May 1st 0:00 and
ends on May 31st 23:59. Last year we had WLPA in May. We
would like to have a central notice with the same data for
WLE this year. We had it visible on de:WP and on Wikimedia
Commons as far as I can see. For the Users which logged in
with an IP from Austria, who had German as a default
language on Commons, it was in German for the others it was
in English. Both, IPs and logged in regular users could read
it. Ther was a discussion on how many percent of the time
the Cantral Notice would be visible, not to be boring too
much for regular contributers. At last everybody was
satisfied with the time, the banner was visible all over the
month of May 2013. But I do not know the data of the
settings for WLPA in May last year. I think for WLM in
September 2013 we had similar settings.
I spoke to several "officials" of WLE
international (Ukraine), but me and even Lodewijk did not
get answers to the questions about central notice for WLE in
May 2014. I wonder, if other countries have set up banners
for the central notice. Most of them will begin in May
2014.
I want to ask you if you kindly could set up a central
notice for the upload campaign for WLE, beginning with the
first of May. The campaign on Commons itself could be
installed by User:AlexX for the people uploading via the
Austrian lists of Natural Monuments.
I can send you the draft for the graphics of the
banner as a PDF with next mail
Which format do we need for the graphics? As in WLM it
has the Logo of WLE on the left side and a photo of a
Natural Monument on the right side.
Many thanks in advance
Beppo

Hello Richard,
As I wrote before, I am prepared to do the upload and
CentralNotice infrastructure, just as in 2013.

Is anyone from last
year's international team stepping forward for
this year? An entirely new team with no
transitional elements might be
putting those
volunteers in at the deep end.

Hello all,
In a couple of days, Wiki Loves Earth is already going to start. Concerning the CentralNotice I have some questions:
* Is it expected by the national organizers that there wille be arranged for them a CentralNotice?
If yes: what will the design be?
Concerning the text/link:
If no: then you create a local sitenotice? (Only works for those countries in what the borders of a country roughly matches a specific language.)
If yes: national teams must provide text which should be shown in the CentralNotice + a link to the landing page where participants can read about the contest.
Add your information here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2014/CentralNot…
If both added to the page, I will create it for you.
No text and/or no url to a ready landing page = no CentralNotice!
Greetings,
Romaine
In germany we are currently working hard getting at least a few Lists of
Protected Areas in Germany in shape for WLE until May 1st, having an
upload-link with campaign in the list. We will stuff all listentrys not
only with a local id, but also with an international WDPA-ID. I created a
WDPA-Template on commons, currently implemented here for testing
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Schmiechener_See.jpg (File)
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Naturschutzgebiet_Schmiechener_…
(click on the icon to the left to get to the wdpa-site)
I'd be happy about corrections and translations of the template.
Since WDPA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Database_on_Protected_Areas)
seems to be the most complete list of protected areas this ID might help in
the future to set up a generic, international WLE campaign instead of
hosting several local campaigns for WLE. The WDPA-Data is far from beeing
complete or completely accurate, but at least in europe there seems to be
an almost complete 1:1-match of WDPA-IDs and Protected Areas, making WDPA a
perfect source for a globally usable ID.

Hi Everybody,
I am part of WLE Macedonia 2014. Our grant proposal is not approved yet.
We'll be late several days with starting day. I hope that will not exclude
us from international competition?
Else, I need a help with this comment of Alex:
Have you discussed the issue of the jury with the international team? We
understand the desire to have more professional jury members, but there
might be international volunteers with photographic experience who would be
happy to be on the Macedonian jury for free. Alex Wang
(WMF)<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:AWang_%28WMF%29>
In discussion with Macedonian Board members I understand that WM Ukraina
could help with this issue.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Zana
