Wiki Loves Earth 2023 International | Top 20 best images of the year🏆

Hi, dear WLE community! We have an exciting news for you! The most awaited moment of the international annual photographic competition devoted to natural heritage has come. We are delighted and proud to present the* top 20 best images of Wiki Loves Earth 2023*!🏆 This year, the contest was held for the *10th time*, lasting from *May 1st to August 31st*. We had a record number of participating countries, which reached* 50*. Many countries that started WLE last or a few years ago continued organizing the contest in 2023. And* 11 *of them joined the contest for the first time this year. Overall, we received more than *61,700 submissions* from over *3,300 uploaders*. *42* countries submitted their local winners and moved to the international level, and we have got *492* local winning images. Thanks to our team of *13 jurors*, we have the final results! The international winners represent two categories —* landscapes* and *macro/close-up*. Dear WLE community! Great news! *Wiki Loves Earth 2023* international photo contest has started![image: 🥳] *13 countries *started their local competitions 6 days ago and we have the first uploads! And also we are announcing the *special nomination “Human rights and environment”*![image: 🌍] In 2023, Wiki Loves Earth international photo contest again supports the initiative WikiForHumanRights, which partners with the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Its goal is to raise awareness of nature protection and human impacts on nature. When we protect the environment, we also protect the fundamental human rights we all have — rights to water, life, food, housing, and other fundamental rights that rely on a clean, healthy environment. 📸And this year, we accept photos not only from the countries where the main contest is going but also from *the whole world*! Wiki Loves Earth 2023 | Regional ambassadors’ announcement

Dear WLE community! This year in order to help our contest be more shared and inclusive for everyone, we're inviting experienced WLE volunteers to become *regional ambassadors* to help out the international organizing team. The main responsibilities of the ambassadors are the help with translations and communications in order to reach out to more regions, where English is not so widespread. So, meet some of our ambassadors! - Georges Fodouop (French-speaking region) — is an ambassador of the Wikimedia Foundation's product team for francophone communities, also a member of the MCDC (Movement Charter Drafting Committee), and secretary of WikiFranca. He has worked on various Wikimedia projects across borders and is a co-founder of the Wikimedians of Cameroon user group. He was Wikimedian-in-Residence for the Wiki Loves Women project and has coordinated international projects such as Wiki Loves Earth, and Wiki Loves Africa and has facilitated French language training for numerous campaigns including #1Lib1Ref, AWiM. - Mohammed Bachounda (Arabic-speaking region) — a volunteer on Wikipedia, organizes many activities for the Arab Wikimedia community, such as photo contests locally and in the Arab world, and the Wikipedia education program in Algeria. With a group of Algerians and Arabs, launched a wiki MOOC, to teach Wikipedia editing in Arabic, which 10,000 people have registered for. Organizer of the WikiArabia conference. Wikimania 2023 : An exhibit or showcase of Wiki Loves Earth? We love to see your program proposals!

Hi Folks, We encourage each and everyone of you to create a program submission. You can submit an interactive workshop or panel, a lecture, a short lighting talk or a poster for our dedicated poster session. Submissions are catered to both onsite and online (live or pre-recorded) or a hybrid combination. We at the Core Organizing Team would like to see a program submission related to community initiatives such as Wiki Loves Earth. The theme for this year's Wikimania is Diversity, Collaboration, Future. Topics that strengthen collaboration on online campaigns and initiatives are topics we like to see this year. There are also photography outreach (photo walks, teaching participants on Nature Photography). Singapore is one of a few countries where nature reserves and parks are at close proximity. It is great way to collaborate with each other. There is also a spacious Wikimania Expo space where achievements on Commons like Wiki Loves campaigns can be exhibited. For participants joining virtually, we also have allocated online hours for you too to allow you to participate & present. Session submissions for Wikimania 2023 are open until 28 March. WIKI LOVES EARTH 2023 | ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear WLE community! Something exciting is coming!🥳 The 11th edition of the Wiki Loves Earth 2023 <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2023> photo contest is on its way! Wiki Loves Earth is an annual international photographic competition. Participants take pictures of local natural heritage in their countries and upload them to Wikimedia Commons, a sister project of Wikipedia. For all participating countries there are separate competitions organized by local teams. ⏰When? This year WLE will take place between 1st May and 31st July. We have a flexible approach regarding local dates, and local organizers decide when exactly to hold their contest within the international timeframe. 🌍How you can join a contest this year as an organizer? For that you need: - Team of volunteers with clear roles and timelines; - Defining eligible natural sites (must be officially protected); - Preparing a landing page for the local contest; - Promotion for the contest in social networks; - Jury to evaluate the photos (select top-15 local winners for an international contest); - Awards for your winners. The rules of the international contest are mostly the same as the previous year, but we made one minor change — on the international level no more than two photos from one author will be selected in the top 20. As our goal is to diversify the winning images and showcase more natural monuments from various regions and authors, this year we put this limit.
