Hi all,
About an hour ago the Wiki Loves Earth contest in Germany closed. Shortly
after it was noticed that there were still uploads that contain the contest
template {{Wiki Loves Earth 2017xx}}.
With some of the images it looks like the uploader started uploading before
the contest ended, but finished after. We will investigate what causes
this, a bug or change in the software.
With other images it was clear that those have been added manually by the
uploader.
With earlier photo contests there was a bot that removed the contest
template, hopefully this bot still runs to fix these errors soon.
If you notice that a contest template is added to a file that was uploaded
outside the contest period, please just remove the above mentioned file.
Thanks!
Romaine
Hi all,
I am preparing a big change in the pre-contest banners above the localised
upload wizards for Wiki Loves Earth. In many areas/countries the contest
starts on 1 May. But not everywhere!
In some areas the contest start on 15 May, 1 June, or another date.
To be able to change the right text, translations are needed. Please
provide a translation on:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Translation
Also in your language!
If your language (code) is not listed, you may add it!
But please also check if all other translations already have been provided:

Thank you!
Romaine
Dear all,
I believe that pictures sharing on WLE Facebook should be accompanied with
interesting information on countries, sites and contests' characteristics.
The number of sites on the lists and their types seems very interesting
information for sharing and showing participants perspectives. I'd be happy
to get this information from local teams, so not to misinterpret
information you have on the pages (and it is not always in English).
And, of course, Nabin and I are ready to share images that are most worthy
in your opinion. Volunteers for managing the international page are also
welcome.

Dear All,
As some of you may know, Wikivoyage uses page banners, the 7:1 panoramic
images placed at the top of each page. We are always short of such
images in general and of good banners with natural objects in
particular. This prompted us to organize the competition of page banners
as a satellite event during WLE. Last year we were running such a
competition for Russian destinations. It was quite successful delivering
88 excellent banners, many of them used nowadays across 17 language
editions of Wikivoyage. This year we extend the banner competition
worldwide:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/banners
The idea is very simple: take your WLE photo, crop it to the 7:1 format,
and upload it separately as a page banner specifying the destination
where it goes. Our (Wikivoyage-based) jury will grade the uploads and
choose the winner who will receive a small prize.
We would be grateful if you disseminate information about this
competition among the participants. Posting short information with the
upload link on the page of your national competition would be great.
Having good page banners from your country not only improves its
coverage on Wikivoyage, but also draws more readers and editors, who may
eventually choose your country for their next trip.
We would also be grateful if the international team finds a way to
advertise this banner competition on the main WLE page and in the media.
Questions and comments are welcome. We look forward to receiving
excellent page banners this year!
Sincerely,
Alexander
