Hello guys,
Since that is our first participation in an international photo contest, we
discussed locally about ways to have more information about what is working
well, the results and the real impact on commons of all our efforts around
Wiki Loves Earth here in Brasil.
So, the Brazilian User Group studied and specified a tool, developed by
Danilo (Danilo.mac on pt.wiki and member of the user group as well) to read
database information and generate a complete report about the Wiki Loves
Earth, including all participating countries listed on commons.
The tool is hosted on the server wmflabs.org under the URL
http://tools.wmflabs.org/ptwikis/WLE
Through this tool you can have a general idea of what is going on: number
of photos uploaded, photos used on wikis, number of uploaders(with complete
list and registration date by country) and the percentage of many
information, including uploaders registered in May 2014 during the contest.
I guess that tool can help each country to define metrics to evaluate your
local efforts/results and can be useful for other local contests as well.
That's our first time organizing this kind of project and we are learning a
lot, until now we received 1.040 photos with 94% of uploaders registered in
May 2014(167 new users for the Wikimedia Commons in 12 days).
Now we are planning a bot to provide guidance and keep in touch with that
new users after the contest ends.
Best regards!

Hello guys!!
We are very excited with the contest results!!
I finally confirmed that all photos elected on the Brazilian contest will
be printed on the most important photo magazine in Latin America, Revista
Fotografe Melhor (http://www.fotografemelhor.com.br/)
The elected photos will be printed on the August edition ;-)
Regarding the exhibition, I'm in the final negotiation process. So,
probably we will have a dedicated room during the Paraty em Foco(
http://paratyemfoco.com/) an international photo festival organized in
Paraty - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraty) in
September.
That will be a good opportunity to talk about the contest, invite new
people to join us on Wikimedia Commons and to spread Wiki Loves Monuments.
Thanks all by the support and congratulations everyone by all the hard word!
Best regards

Hi, guys!
Wikimedia Serbia is organizing a local WLE competition and we were
wondering what should we "officially" do, do we have to register somewhere,
how to get the necessary templates etc.
Sorry for the late questions, we had a lot of thinking whether to start the
project. We are now ready for it :)
Hope to hear from you soon,
Sanja
Hi Platonides,
Yes, it should work by doing a replacement on a few string variables.
There are two questions that are a bit tricky:
- The one listing all the previous contests (this one would need to be updated after each contest that has taken place - not a huge problem)
- The one asking when the pictures were mainly taken (here, the items need to be adapted from year to year as well as specifically with regard to the date of the contest)
Another issue is that we didn't have full translations available for all needed languages. So we would need to run another translation sprint for the missing languages.
If you are taking care of the technical stuff, I can review the questionnaire once you have set it up with the changing variables, and I can try to establish a list of the languages that still would need translation.
Cheers,
Beat

Hello Beat,
I just found this proposal while reviewing old unread mail, and seems very interesting.
This would basically simply need the variables {{contest}}, {{year}}, {{previous year}}, {{previous month}}, {{coordinating team}} and {{team signature}}, plus the country list and run the same survey on any contest.
The cool thing is that we could perform a blind replacement on the translations we currently have and it _should_ work.
This kind of usage assumes that on all languages the contest name will appear on the same part of the phrase (which is probably the case) and won't be differences like WLM and WLE having different genders.
Regards
PS: For the countries you added, we would need the languages:
Portuguese, Khmer, Kurdish?, Greek, Latvian, Macedonian, Malagasy?
I noticed for some weeks now that there was no Twitter presence of Wiki
Loves Earth. I consider that a missed opportunity and because there's
always a risk of someone else impersonating, I registered @WikiLovesEarth
myself but wouldn't like to commit spending a lot of time managing it.
So I could really use the help of three or so people from different
countries with this. Ivan from Mexico already offered his - who else?
Best,
Lodewijk
Hi,
I just got a question on twitter about how to participate in Wiki Loves
Earth. And indeed, both www.wikilovesearth.org and the page on commons
don't mention this. Could someone add a bit more information for
participants? Currently both are focused very much on the organizers.
Best,
Lodewijk
Dear all,
We in Macedonia have request from Wikipedians photographers: in the list
of natural heritage recognized by the law, to add "other" - beauty of the
nature, which are not include in the list.
Is it OK with the rules of the contest?
Regards,
Zana
