Hi all,
I am preparing a big change in the pre-contest banners above the localised
upload wizards for Wiki Loves Earth. In many areas/countries the contest
starts on 1 May. But not everywhere!
In some areas the contest start on 15 May, 1 June, or another date.
To be able to change the right text, translations are needed. Please
provide a translation on:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Translation
Also in your language!
If your language (code) is not listed, you may add it!
But please also check if all other translations already have been provided:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Upload_cam…
Thank you!
Romaine
Dear all,
I believe that pictures sharing on WLE Facebook should be accompanied with
interesting information on countries, sites and contests' characteristics.
The number of sites on the lists and their types seems very interesting
information for sharing and showing participants perspectives. I'd be happy
to get this information from local teams, so not to misinterpret
information you have on the pages (and it is not always in English).
And, of course, Nabin and I are ready to share images that are most worthy
in your opinion. Volunteers for managing the international page are also
welcome.

Dear All,
As some of you may know, Wikivoyage uses page banners, the 7:1 panoramic
images placed at the top of each page. We are always short of such
images in general and of good banners with natural objects in
particular. This prompted us to organize the competition of page banners
as a satellite event during WLE. Last year we were running such a
competition for Russian destinations. It was quite successful delivering
88 excellent banners, many of them used nowadays across 17 language
editions of Wikivoyage. This year we extend the banner competition
worldwide:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/banners
The idea is very simple: take your WLE photo, crop it to the 7:1 format,
and upload it separately as a page banner specifying the destination
where it goes. Our (Wikivoyage-based) jury will grade the uploads and
choose the winner who will receive a small prize.
We would be grateful if you disseminate information about this
competition among the participants. Posting short information with the
upload link on the page of your national competition would be great.
Having good page banners from your country not only improves its
coverage on Wikivoyage, but also draws more readers and editors, who may
eventually choose your country for their next trip.
We would also be grateful if the international team finds a way to
advertise this banner competition on the main WLE page and in the media.
Questions and comments are welcome. We look forward to receiving
excellent page banners this year!
Sincerely,
Alexander
Hi all,
Reminder: please make sure that:
* You provided a landing page (Links to:)
* You provide translations for the text in the banner (Text:)
At:

Wikipedia will be up within half an our after the start of the contest.

Hello!
Four our Wiki Loves Monuments contests Central Notice banners were a very
important way to advertise out contest.
When looking for WLE banners coordination page, I found only one for last
years edition. Well there be a centralized approach to this or should I
work on this myself?
Mārtiņš
Hi,
(I'll be bold to answer)
There will be a centralized approach to setting a CentralNotice for WLE.
There is a request filled[1] in on Meta by Romaine.

Dear international team
I am re-sending this email to international team members of WLE for the
third time, I guess. So I appreciate a response.

my password. I can't able to retrieve new password so Please hep me get new
password. my username is registered with email "saqib.qayyum(a)hotmail.com"
2. We used to have email address "pakistan(a)wikilovesearth.org" which was
redirected email to my email address. But the email address is no more
working at the moment. Perhaps it has been deleted? Please re-create it for
us and setup email forwarding to email address of mine.
WLE is approaching fast and therefore I appreciate fast response on this. I
hope this won't go unnoticed this time.
Thank you
Saqib
Dear Wikimedia colleagues,
After four wonderful editions of Wiki Loves Earth resulting in over 300,000
new photos on Commons, we are happy to invite you to the 5th edition of
Wiki Loves Earth international photo contest –
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017
As a reminder, Wiki Loves Earth is focused on natural heritage (protected
natural areas of all possible types) in different countries. Like Wiki
Loves Monuments, the contest is organised in a federative way – meaning
that it depends only on YOU and your affiliate/group if the contest will
take place in your country.
Last year we had 26 participating countries organising local contests. In
addition, owing to partnership with UNESCO we had a special nomination for
photos of biosphere reserves all over the world, getting photos from 27
other countries, such as Argentina, Canada, Indonesia, Italy, South Africa
and many others. This shows that photographers around the world have a
great enthusiasm about Wiki Loves Earth – so we hope to see many of you
organising a local contest in your country this year!
In order to join please add your country on the contest page:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017
You can learn more on how to organise a contest in your country (it’s not
that difficult!) here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/
wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Organise
If you want to participate or are interested but not sure, we would like to
hear your say:
-
Please tell us what kind of assistance you would like to get from the
international team! Just email us at wle-team(a)wikimedia.org.ua to tell
what you need to start in your country
-
To avoid eternal dissatisfaction with jury tools, we have set up a page
with an action plan: https://commons.wikimedia.org/
wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Jury_tools
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2017/Jury_tools>.
Please share your thoughts about it on the talk page!
-
Finally, you can subscribe to our mailing lists at
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikilovesearth
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikilovesearth> (
wikilovesearth(a)lists.wikimedia.org <wikilovesearth(a)lists.wikimedia.org>)
to get our updates.
We hope to see many new participants in Wiki Loves Earth this year and we
are happy to help you if you have any questions.

Nikola / User:Lord Bumbury
