Hi guys,
I have received some messages from Cuba requesting help to install Kiwix and its wikipedia package in Spanish on Ubuntu.
The main problem comes when the user can download and burn a CD on a public machine but he does not have Internet on his computer, that is, carrying the ZIM file does not represent any problem, however, installing kiwix on linux offline It represents another level of complexity especially in the installation process during the installation when dependencies are being resolved (this could be a nightmare down dependencies manually).
This is a recurring problem and I have received several messages, so far I have not found any solution. I've been thinking about maybe a live cd version with kiwix. I would like to hear your suggestions.

The latest Kiwix-desktop (http://download.kiwix.org/release/kiwix-desktop/) is portable-only at the moment and the process of having a debian/ubuntu package is ongoing. So please take a look at this version and check that it meets your needs.

Hi Wilfredo, I am currently running a project in Senegal to distribute Kiwix to schools that are "off the grid", meaning there is no connection to the internet and often do not have cell phone coverage. The schools and teachers use a lot of old computers and old laptops which operate under windows XP. I will be going to Senegal in October, and that is one thing I will survey: how many machines are there under each operating system. Do you have an idea of what is used in Cuba?

I don't know, but depending on the context it might be easier to ship just the package and/or its dependencies with an ISO file alongside Kiwix and its ZIM files, however you shipped them, and then make apt-get use it as additional repository. There are various ways to do it, last time I tried it was rather easy:
