Hi
zimwriterfs is a command line tools which transforms any local directory with static HTML files to the corresponding ZIM file. At Kiwix we have created that tool years ago and have been using it intensively since.
The last months many improvements have been brought to zimwriterfs: * Increase the speed * Clean the code * Make it able to create ZIM with full-text index inside
Most of that work has been done during Esino Lario Kiwix hackathon. For more details about other achievements: http://wiki.kiwix.org/wiki/Hackathon_Wikimania_2016
We thought this is now a good time to publish it as a part of the openZIM project and to provide official release mgmt, tarballs and support. Here it is: http://www.openzim.org/download/zimwriterfs-1.0.tar.xz
ZIM is a great format which has proven his efficiency (compression level, versatility, portability, random access speed and performance) over the past 5 years and which deserves to be even broader used. Other projects, in addition to Kiwix, should adopt the ZIM format for offline content distribution or researches purposes.
As a consequence, the effort to improve documentation/packaging/tools around ZIM will continue in the next months and in 2017. Everything will be posted here, like usual. More details about the openZIM project at http://www.openzim.org/
