This notice has been emailed to the list owners mailing list and operations
list, as well as posted on tasks T108099 & T107445.
I've scheduled a mailman downtime window for planned maintainance on
Tuesday, August 18th, 17:00–18:00 UTC. During this time, I'll be working
the mailman side of the two tasks. Both are involving list renames. The
deployments page on wikitech has been updated with this information:
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Deployments
I do not expect this work to take the entire window. However, during this
time, mailing list traffic will fail to receive/send. Once mailman is
restarted, it will process mailing list messages. That means that mailing
list delivery may be sporadic, or not at all, during this window. Any
messages sent during this time will process either during or directly after
the end of the maintenance.

Mailing list maintenance window - 2015-06-02 17:00 UTC to 19:00 UTC
I'll be taking the mailing list server offline for a (hopefully) short
window.
At the time of this announcement, this will be simply to process a single
request. There is a good chance another request or two will be appended to
this one before the actual window arrives.
The downtime will start on 2015-06-02 @ 17:00 UTC and end at 19:00 UTC.
Current Tasks:
T100707 - Rename pywikipedia-l to pywikibot
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T100707
Some may recall the last mailman maintenance window wasn't without
incident:
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Incident_documentation/20150519-Mailman
This has been taken into account, and further testing of changes and
mailman both before and after maintenance have been expanded.
During this time, all mailing list traffic, as well as online archives, may
become unavailable. Once the window has ended, all mail routing should
resume normally, and any messages sent during the window will then be
delivered accordingly.
All associated tasks and changes are linked from
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T100711.
This mail has (initially) been send to the lists administrators list and
wikitech-l. Please feel free to forward to any other lists or parties that
would need to know about this maintenance window.

Hi everyone,
The recent use of this list by Rob fired up a discussion I had before and
brought up with him. Currently all emails to this list go to what used to
be all list-owner address but now has likely gone to 90% which decreases
this lists effectiveness.
As such, I am changing the subscription pattern to this list. After this
message goes out, I will be unsubscribing all -owner address, approving the
current 'personal' email requests and switching subscription to open.
Further more, future list creations will have a new step where list
administrators will be added to this list with the option to unsubscribe at
their discretion.
I highly recommend all list administrators subscribe to this list if you
are not currently (check just in case) as maintenance windows and new
features (or policies) will be announced to this list.
Thank you,
John Lewis
Please note that we will be working on a few open tasks for mailing list
server maintenance, next Tuesday, May 19th from 17:00 to 19:00 UTC.

Hi everyone,
You're receiving this email as you are a list administrator or moderator of
a Wikimedia Mailman mailing list (lists.wikimedia.org).
Today a new change was deployed to Mailman which changes the default theme
for listinfo pages from current bland box-based one to a more user-friendly
and Wikimedia-designed theme which has been used by a few lists over the
past few months. For those who want to see the patch for this change,
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/154964/. You can see an example of this
new theme at https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/test.
This change has taken effect on all lists which are using the default
theme. This will *not* affect any lists which are using custom list info
pages, including lists which were already using the new theme before it
became the default.
If upon receiving this email the design of the list info page that you
manage has not changed, you can change the theme to the new one through the
Mailman web interface. Please copy and paste the HTML at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/List_info/en?action=edit
(removing
the first line of <languages />) into your lists' listinfo.html. You can
access this by going to the list administration interface and clicking the
'Edit the public HTML files and text pages' and then clicking
'listinfo.html'. For ease of access, you can go to <
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/edithtml/your-list/listinfo.html>
replacing "your-list" with the name of the list you manage.
This is a small change for list administrators but a big change towards
making Mailman more user friendly for the Wikimedia community. We are
working on implementing a few more changes to Mailman (such as making
fighting spam/preventing it even easier) which we hope will benefit the
community using lists and the community managing them. If you have any
suggestions for Mailman, please file a bug at Bugzilla under the 'Mailing
lists' component which can be found under the 'Wikimedia' product. Quick
link:

If you have any questions or feedback, please reply to this email or email
listadmins-owner(a)lists.wikimedia.org directly and Thehelpfulone (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Thehelpfulone) or myself (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:John_F._Lewis) will respond.
Thanks,
John Lewis
