Dear all,
My name is Lizzy Jongma. I am datamanager at the Rijksmuseum and I am currently trying to do a (new) batch upload to Wikimedia Commons with the Batch Upload tool.
We are currently mapping our internal metadata to the GLAMwiki format(s) and as you can all imagine: this always leads to a million questions. I will not send you all a million questions but I would like to send you all this one:
These are the dimensions of an object in our collection, written down in Adlib and then exported as XML to our website:
1. <dimension>
2. <dimension.notes>
3. <value lang="0"/>
4. <value lang="1"/>
5. </dimension.notes>
6. <dimension.unit>
7. <value lang="0">cm</value>
8. <value lang="1">cm</value>
9. </dimension.unit>
10.<dimension.value>
11.<value lang="0">379.5</value>
12.<value lang="1">379,5</value>
13.</dimension.value>
14.<dimension.type>
15.<value lang="0">height</value>
16.<value lang="1">hoogte</value>
17.</dimension.type>
18.</dimension>
19.<dimension>
20.<dimension.notes>
21.<value lang="0"/>
22.<value lang="1"/>
23.</dimension.notes>
24.<dimension.unit>
25.<value lang="0">cm</value>
26.<value lang="1">cm</value>
27.</dimension.unit>
28.<dimension.value>
29.<value lang="0">453.5</value>
30.<value lang="1">453,5</value>
31.</dimension.value>
32.<dimension.type>
33.<value lang="0">width</value>
34.<value lang="1">breedte</value>
35.</dimension.type>
36.</dimension>
37.<dimension>
38.<dimension.notes>
39.<value lang="0"/>
40.<value lang="1">gewicht met lijst</value>
41.</dimension.notes>
42.<dimension.unit>
43.<value lang="0">kg</value>
44.<value lang="1">kg</value>
45.</dimension.unit>
46.<dimension.value>
47.<value lang="0">337</value>
48.<value lang="1">337</value>
49.</dimension.value>
50.<dimension.type>
51.<value lang="0">weight</value>
52.<value lang="1">gewicht</value>
53.</dimension.type>
54.</dimension>
55.<dimension>
(XSLT: And in our web CMS we put this XSLT:
<!-- dimensions -->
<xsl:element name="dcterms:SizeOrDuration">
<xsl:text>{{Size|unit=</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="dimension/dimension.unit/value[@lang=0]"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="dimension"/>
<xsl:text>}}</xsl:text>
</xsl:element>
<xsl:template match="dimension">
<xsl:text>|</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="dimension.type/value[@lang=0]"/>
<xsl:text>=</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="dimension.value/value[@lang=0]"/>
</xsl:template>
)
I am currently writing an XSLT stylesheet to transform this XML to the Wikimedia format for documenting Works of Art:
Dimensions - dcterms: SizeOrDuration ('class') - dimensions
Use Size formatting template: Dimensions of the artwork: 1D (length), 2D (width × height) or 3D (width × height × depth). Please use {{Size}}<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Size> formatting template, such as:
{{Size|unit=cm|width=76.7|height=83.5}} <- gives Height: 83.5 cm (32.9 in). Width: 76.7 cm (30.2 in).
But, as you can see Size only consists of one type of unit and our dimensions consist of two types of units for specific parts.
How do I solve this? Repeat dcterms: SizeOrDuration ('class') for different units? Ignore units for weights etc?
Thanks for your input!
Best wishes
Lizzy Jongma

Lizzy you wrote this :

transform a creators’name and could we “borrow” your XSLT code?

At the Rijksmuseum you have indexed most or all of your creators to the
RKDartists database and we have matched a good chunk of those on
Mix-n-Match. If you export your RKD matches you can use our downloadable
Mix-n-Match set of names to make the conversion.
Here is the link to download the text file with matched RKDartist names (Q
numbers without the leading "Q")

Hi all,
Sorry to bother you again: the Rijksmuseum is creating a set to upload in the GLAMwiki toolset and there is documentation about the template we are using: the artwork template. In this template the format of Wikimedia Commons fields is being described. For instance: this is the format for technique
{{Technique|Oil|Canvas}}
We are wondering whether we have to incorporate this in our XML or if the template/GLAMtool will rewrite: <dcterms:medium xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#">paper</dcterms:medium> into the Wikimedia format?
We always use CC PD + CC PD Mark URL to mark our works of art:
<dc:rights xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#">http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/</dc:rights<http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/%3c/dc:rights>>
We are now puzzeling on wiki licensing: do we need to use the {{PD-old}} tags? And do we also need to implement the {{PD-1923}} for the US?
We are using XSLT to transform our internal XML into Dublin Core.
In the creator set you ask us to change the creator name from "Bruna, Dick" to "Dick Bruna"
Before spending hours on writing XSLT: has anyone else written XSLT code to transform a creators'name and could we "borrow" your XSLT code?
That would save us sooooo much time
Thank you all for your help!
Have a great weekend!
Best wishes from sunny Amsterdam
Lizzy

Apologies,

Thanks for looking!
It seems not a single new file of the two subsequent batch jobs (all shell
pictures, no birds) has been uploaded, see

although indeed

shows activity.

Dear colleagues,
This afternoon (Europe) GWT refused to upload a new batch, after serving
me fine for days....
I stupidly tried the same batch job again (albeit with different throttle,
can be deleted) no action, and still so many birds, mammals, insects,
herbaria and artworks from Naturalis, Leiden, to go..
kind regards,
hansmuller
Hi everyone,
In the upcoming weeks, Lizzy Jongma and Esther Doornbusch from the Rijksmuseum will do a GWtoolset upload of approx. 2.600 new images of artworks (mainly prints, drawings, some objects, hopefully also some old public domain photographs!) from the Rijkmuseum collection, featuring birds.
(This is part of a ‘bird identification’ activity on 4 Oct at the Rijks, for which we will create a project/info page this week!)
I will assist them in this process. This will also be my first GWtoolset upload.
Lizzy has the username LizzyJongma. Esther has E.Doornbusch. My own username is Spinster.
Can someone on this list give us three the necessary permissions for Commons beta and Commons for using the GWtoolset? Thank you :-)
It’s always possible that, despite doublechecking, a small selection of these images will already be on Commons. If I remember well, Commons and/or the GWtoolset warns if an image is an exact duplicate?
Greetings, Sandra
Hi everyone.
I have just started uploading my first large batch of images to Commons using the toolset (abt 5000 low res images). The first 10 uploaded fine but for the last 30 minutes no more have uploaded. Is this a sign that there is a problem? or is it normal for there to be gaps in the upload?
Thanks
Jason

Hello, you may remember the WMIT WIR at BEIC; if not, see links in English. :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/BEIC
Last week, the 10 months collaboration came to an end; I published a lenghty report/case study in Italian. TL;DR: free software developed, 10 BEIC staff contributing, a thousand images uploaded, 6500 usages, 400 articles created, 4 millions accesses/month.
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:GLAM/BEIC/2015-07
The partnership between WMIT and BEIC will actually continue, but I'll have a non-BEIC job at WMIT and a non-wiki job at BEIC. So I'll do little/no editing for BEIC; probably some planning, training, uploading and maybe coding. Maybe WMIT will keep providing BEIC a wiki editor and invoice for it, maybe not.
I have some requests from you! I hope you can help.
1) Comments on the past months, e.g. based on the monthly updates or brutal numbers.
2) Suggestions on what is worth translating of the report. There are passages trying to push institutions to free software, open data, public domain, community consultation, involvement of staff. Someone liked my metaphor "be like mushroom, not sequoias". But maybe this is all covered better elsewhere already?
3) Recommendations on how to update
https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedian_in_Residence . Should I still be listed there, or call the WIR done? Where to record the WMIT-BEIC partnership?
4) Lessons from other partnerships with institutions having an in-house wikimedian not doing wiki work. (Other than Sannita/Luca at ICCU...) Perhaps Scotland, Netherlands and Switzerland have more to say as AFAICT they are all moving towards a permanent team serving multiple institutions à la traveling WIR, like WMIT.
Nemo
P.s.: Sorry for cross-posting but I think it's better than many overlapping messages; if possible reply on each list to the parts relevant for that list and cc only me, not all the other lists.
