Hello,
My Name is Anne-Laure, Anne-LaureM on wiki (original no ^^) I do a
student practicum in the Muséum of Toulouse.
I participe at the phoebus project and I try to use the GWtoolSet but
it's very difficult for me because I study communication not database or
informatic. I'm little bit lost in the english documentation.
If you have time, I'm very enthousiastic to learning the usage of this
tools before the end of my practicum (08.31). I'm sorry for the short
time, but the Muséum don't use this tool and I have discovered it this
week :s . After august is possible to but I will be less aviable cause
my master.
Thank you for your attention and good week-ends!

For those who don't know it yet.
https://tools.wmflabs.org/url2commons/index.html is a uploadbyurl upload tool by Magnus Manske.
No special authorization process needed. It is perfect for small batch uploads.
Best,
Steinsplitter
Perhaps you are already aware of this new upload tool by Yarl:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Pattypan
Arne Wossink of the Dutch chapter (WMNL) recently gave a workshop in
Utrecht, The Netherlands. Pattypan proves to be a handy tool at least for
small uploads (don't know a limit, might be slow though), with some
advantages over GWToolSet, but not all of its capabilities:
- no URL needed for the uploadables
- no need for conversion of the metadata to XML
- no upload permissions needed (!)
The metadata templates Artwork, Information, Photograph are available by
default, it seems other templates can be implemented by the user.
Pattypan creates a spreadsheet for your directory with uploadable files,
which can then be filled with metadata. So Pattypan is an improvement over
Vicuna, also by Yarl.
Best regards, hans muller

Does anyone know what this error indicates? When I get to the stage of
previewing uploads on GWT, I get a page with just this:
Exception encountered, of type "Wikimedia\Assert\ParameterAssertionException"
I've tried swapping around parameters and I'm using the most basic
information template, which takes very few parameters anyway. The
upload is explained at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Batch_uploading/Codex_Aureus
Thanks,
Fae

Dear All,
** Is it possible to add 3134 captions to existing images on Commons?
** (without removing earlier work on the images, metadata and categories)
This nice question presents itself in the following case. Recently, i
uploaded 3134 images from Dutch University Library Leiden UBL and KITLV to
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Media_contributed_by_KITLV_2016…
(309 colonial works of art)
and
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Media_contributed_by_KITLV_2016…
(2805 colonial photographs)
with captions in Dutch and English. I corrected the metadata, categorised
the images and put them into Wikipedia articles (only a few ;-)
Now a translator might be paid to translate the captions into Bahasa
Indonesia, the language of the people perhaps most interested in these
historical images. If the translator succeeds, that would mean require
language templates like
{{id|1= ... }}
to the description fields.
Re-uploading with GWToolset proved to be impossible if another user has
worked on the metadata since upload. Categorisation and my own corrections
to the metadata would be lost.
* Is there another, painless solution putting in the new translation while
keeping the previous work on these files?
Thanks for you considering this problem,
Best regards from a sunny Utrecht, the Netherlands,
hans muller

Hi!
I'm currently downloading files from http://samlinger.natmus.dk/ and
uploading them to Wikimedia Commons.
This is fine, since it gives me a good feeling for the content, but
with about 37000 freely licensed images* (and new images added daily),
it also becomes tedious.
Therefore I wish to shift to GWT, but will need to test on Beta
first, of course.
*) Breakdown right now:
http://samlinger.natmus.dk/?q=public+domain - 8352 images
http://samlinger.natmus.dk/?q=cc-by-sa - 25650 images
http://samlinger.natmus.dk/?q=halgreen - 3989 images
