I think #2 is the right direction, and I recommend we get serious about it. But if people don't think we can do #2 in a reasonable period of time, we should do #1.

I think Trevor Parscal wants to make some adjustments and it doesn't match the full fallback in https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_Design/Typography, but it's exciting to see this!
