Here is an abstract about the topics we have dealt with in our last meeting
(April 25)
* symode09 introduced himself as video editor (and more)
* Presslist: Status? Some discussion about database formats.
* Bastique: needs a press release for wikibooks.
* Wiki_Blue: .05 release, covered by BBC and Associated Press
* Wiki_Blue -- CraigSpurrier: NY Times magazine: wikipedia & wikinews
* Wikimania: Liaise volunteer
Taking notes of goings on....and when it comes up... participating
* PR project: promoting WikiPorject Classroom. Information already on the
email-list
Next meeting -> agenda
We can elaborate on these topics, throwing ideas. Part of the agenda for the
next meeting could be constructed from this input.

I think we could make it wider, and make a PR for third age (does this
idioms exist in english?) about projects like wikibooks, wiktionary
and wikisource. I think this is the three project in wich they would
be interested.

We need to come up with some sort of Press release for Wikibooks to
encourage participation.
Senior citizens are the fastest growing segment of the Internet
community (at least in the United States), and retirees have a lot of
free time and a wealth of original knowledge.
This segment is probably better suited for helping to grow projects like
Wikibooks, where first-hand knowledge is much more appreciated than at
Wikipedia, which requires external sources.
Thoughts?

Schiste send me a mail telling that he will be the bridge between Wikimania
and the ComProj. He is already working in looking for sponsorship for the
event.
Here is the page with info about the team and volunteers of wikimania 2007

Presskit (wiki)
After our las meeting was over, Schiste came into our IRC and pointed me to

Bastique, when you said you needed a press release for wikibooks, were you
thinking about this page?

I'm currently working with one of my teachers to produce a series of lesson
plans to suit the English school curriculum and involve Wikipedia. Will let
you know how it goes.

Hi guys,
I need help with Wikiproject Coordination. We need to:
1) Do a bit of research and draft a press release and translate it. (as
well as get quotes from volunteers, particularly Lisa, who is main contact.
2) Research academic/education journals to send to....and find contact
information
3) People that would be willing to actually pitch the story in their
respective countries.
As always, please email me directly if you are interested, or have any
comments.

We have 19 Wikipedian volunteers so far and our first coordinated
project is underway: an instructor from the University of Minnesota is
working with us to enhance a freshman composition assignment where
groups of students collaborate to create a new Wikipedia article. Our
volunteers will review draft versions in the students' userspace and
offer suggestions before these pieces get uploaded into the main
project, then if all goes according to plan we will honor the best group
effort with our project award the WikiPen. Our goal is to offer
feedback that helps these students meet encyclopedic standards - we're
not here to do the assignments for them, but a few tips about reference
works and copyediting would probably help them be better students as
well as better Wikipedians.
Our project is open to all educational levels. In order to maintain a
safe environment we plan to work primarily with teachers at the
pre-university level. Instructors can look to our project for examples
of classroom assignments that have been successful in the past and for
tips on structuring lessons in ways that conform with site policies.
One interesting twist to this WikiProject is that some of
our experienced site volunteers are themselves students.
Effective immediately, I will be stepping down from the Communications
Project on Wikimedia. This has nothing to do with the individuals associated
with it; the timing is just unfortunate. I have found that I am unable to
devote my time to such affairs, and I feel that this project and what is
associated with it is not for me. Again, I am leaving the ComProj; a
decision that I would rather not make, but one that I feel is appropriate
for me. I thank you all for a wonderful (short) experience with the comproj,
and I wish you all the best of luck.
Regretfully yours,

Our weekly meeting at 9:30pm BST (my time), and given that it's not
5:20pm, it's in four and a half hours from me sending this :-)
Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
Sean
PS I'm a bit behind on my e-mails, but I will get to all those that
are comproj related (including new members) soon. Thank you for your
patience.

Hi,
I REALLY need help with the press kit. I have a *_VERY rough draft,_*
that I would like some input on. I can send you a PDF, and all you would
have to do is quickly review, look at the sections I currently have...
see if we need to add more sections, and overall just give your overall
impression.....Whoever would like to volunteer for this, please email me
directly and I will send you a PDF. It would be cool if a handful of you
could volunteer to help with this project...I promise not to take a lot
of your time.
Sandy
