Hi folks,
I have joined the Communication Project Group. I am new to the group.
I have seen only one project listed there. Do we need to list the
projects?
Thanks,
Shyam
Hello,
Recently, Jay was so kind to invite me to this list, and here I am.
I am a historian from Germany and would like to contribute to the PR of
Wikimedia, thinking about the whole traject of people learning about the
Wikipedia, using the site, starting to edit, become a Wikipedian, be
frustrated in the beginning and so on...
Kind regards
Ziko

Hi all - I wonder if someone wouldn't mind giving me a hand with an upcoming
presser we're working on.
All wikipedias are approaching 10M articles, and I need someone who might be able
to keep track of progress in approaching this number so I don't miss the boat in
sending the release.
We have some content ready, so it's just a matter of someone keeping an eye on the
stats page to see when we're getting particularly close.
Contact me if you're up for that - most appreciated :)

Hi Guys,
Cormac. You write what I think (better), so thanks. In the Wikiversity
space, you’re probably one of the best promoters, especially in the Open
CourseWare community’s space, which I think we both see as sharing a common
aim with the WMF. The Comms problem is common to both. Perhaps their Comms
tool development (and costs) could be shared, particularly the Real Time
stuff.
Jay, you may be aware that wikiback started earlier this year, HYPERLINK
"http://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm"http://www.wikback.co
m/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm . It is one logical channel to mend some
old wounds and tear down some project fences, while measuring some success
pretty quickly. You’ll notice it already has two forums up = Wikipedia and
Wikimedia Foundation. With a few more you’d probably find that as a cross
border (project) meeting place, it’s a good start. You can measure the
numbers so the evidence will mount for a more professional aggregation and
distribution method, should the WMF, wikieducator and other semi related
project communities find it useful.
And just so you don’t think this conversation about comms and strategy is
taking place in isolation. HYPERLINK
"http://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=6&page=1"ht
tp://www.wikback.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=6&page=1
Like every approach, it’s a matter of suck it and see. But I always use this
one as an example because it’s about number three on Alexa’s Community of
Practice measuring stick. (I’ve been told and still sceptical) HYPERLINK
"http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/"http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/ (just an
example).
Sorry I couldn’t make the IRC. Regards, simonfj

Thanks all - for your time and discussion at today's meeting (especially
Sean for bringing us all back together).
I'm sure Cary or Sean can point us to the transcript from today's
meeting if you're looking for a recap.
In short, I think that by setting some specific, concrete goals for our
work we can ensure that the projects I bring to the table, or you
propose, are all part of the larger picture.
The first (and actually quite broad) goal I propose is 'promotion'
By promotion, that means I'd like work I float, or that we discuss, on
this list to specifically be aimed towards promoting WMF's projects:
* Spreading the word on our internal communications tools (pumps,
signpost, project info pages etc)
* bringing news and information to the wider public community by
discussing our projects in other non-WMF related sites/media.
The second goal is more complex and ambitious, so give me a bit more
time over the next couple of weeks to describe what I mean and how I
think we can do this.
But to start, we need to put life into our new Foundation blog (it also
needs a name - any suggestions?)
Those who expressed an interest in lending technical, writing, or
design/creative support - please drop me and cary(a)wikimedia.org a note
directly.
This is a project I have to get up and running very soon, and to do so I
will probably involve those specifically interested in a separate thread.
That's about all for now - I'm pressed for time today, but will have
more to say soon.
Thanks!
jay

Google Summer of Code 2008 and if there is a mailling list about this topic.
Thanks
I have to say, that was quite an interesting conversation.
Well, I am EST as well. At least I know now what time the meeting is at ;P

Hi all - I know there have been challenges in getting this group going -
and I thank Sean and the others for their patience.
Barring an IRC meeting (and I do want to participate there as well) I
have a couple of quick questions.
How many do we have on this group list altogether? I should probably be
able to find that out on the list page.
Secondly, we've now got the software in place for a wordpress blog at
blog.wikimedia.org. It's in the freezer for now (i.e. not operating :)
but not for long.
What I'm wondering is if we have any pros on this list, or if we could
recruit someone, who could revamp the graphics template slightly to make
it look a bit more wikimedia-esque. It will always be on a page all its
own, but I'd at least like it to look/feel as much like the WMF wiki as
possible.
Eventually we want to unleash some new mediawiki coding/functionality
that will allow us to have blogging convention built right into the
mediawiki system - so there'd be no transition. I suspect a huge number
of media wiki users would treasure this option.
Any thoughts? Let's discuss...
