Just wanted to touch base with everyone and share a few things:
1) Thank you everyone for being so damn cool. Honestly, I can't believe
how much this group has already accomplished, and how smoothly
everything is running. (Sean, "big up" :) for helping
facilitate/organize this)
2) As we are new, and just starting a process, please let me know if you
have any recommendations. I know some of you mentioned that you wanted
more brainstorming. Would it help, if for example, I start sending areas
that need help, and whoever volunteers for the project, can brainstorm
together. For example, our other projects (like wikinews, etc) do not
receive as much publicity as Wikipedia. Should I send suggestions your
way? For example, hey this month is wikinews...and bunch of you can
brainstorm together and come up with ideas on how to publicize, etc? I
want to make sure everyone enjoys being part of this group and that
everyone feels useful, excited and most importantly, CREATIVE! :) .
3) Remember that this is also a group for you guys to seek help for your
own project(s). Ie, if you are working on something that you need help
with, don't hesitate to contact comproj and ask for assistance. (I know
many of you have worked on very cool communication projects in the
past.) Ie, you need help writing/designing something, finding a contact,
etc.
Anyway, everyone have a good weekend. And thanksssss sooo mmuucccchhh :)
You guys kick some royal butt!!
Sandy

Wikipedia Sister Project, Wikimedia Commons, Creates RSS Feed for
Popular Picture of the Day*
ST PETERSBURG, FL - Wikimedia Commons, the sister project to Wikipedia,
announces the creation of a RSS feed for its popular "Picture of the
Day." Wikimedia Commons is a wiki repository for freely-licensed media,
including pictures, videos, sound, animations, and diagrams, among others.
"Pictures of the Day" are certified as Quality Images or Featured
Pictures , and represent /the best of the best/ in freely licensed
media content available today. Currently, content is licensed under the
GNU Free Documentation License. This means that all content can be
freely used, edited, copied and distributed.
Currently, there are several ways to access the Picture of the Day - by
visiting the Wikimedia Commons mainpage, subscribing to the daily-image
mailing lists, embedding the Picture of the Day into your personal
website, downloading the Picture of the Day computer desktop wallpaper,
or subscribing to the Picture of the Day RSS feed. Additionally,
Livejournal users can add the commons Picture of the Day feed to their
friend's list.
Launched on September 2, 2004, Wikimedia Commons is maintained entirely
by volunteers. The project uses the same wiki-technology as other
Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia. Wikimedia Commons hit the
1,000,000 upload media file milestone on November 30, 2006. Currently it
contains 1,215,836 files and 55,835 collections.
To get involved, individuals simply need an internet connection and any
type of digital artwork they would like to contribute to the world.

*About the Wikimedia Foundation*
The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is a US-registered 501(c)(3)
tax-deductible nonprofit charity. It runs the websites for Wikipedia and
other Wikimedia projects.
Would anyone like to start collecting articles that mention our
projects, and posting them on meta? To begin, I have a bunch of articles
(in emails) I've stored in my inbox, and i'm sure that through google,
and other webpages, we could acquire this.
This project is very important to do news analysis and figure out where
we need more positive press, how certain industries see us, etc.
It would be great if someone could volunteer to be like the Coverage
Analysis Liaison, and be responsible for this.

Hey Guys,
Here are a few projects I need help with. Please let email me directly,
if anyone is interested in a project. I've been having problems with the
comproj lists and was unable to send emails till today. However, I
wanted to thank everyone for attending last weeks meeting, and look
forward to working with everyone.
On a good note, Dev920 got us a free advertising space and an editorial
piece in one of the American Association of Librarians newsletter (here
in the U.S.) :) Go Sarah!

*Policy Flier*
Would someone be interested in creating a flier that summarizes some of
the most important policies on Wikipedia....especially notability, NPOV,
conflict of interest, and that maybe provide links to tutorials on how
to create an entry.
I will be using the sheet to forward to the numerous callers we get at
the foundation, as well as providing it to new Wikipedians, and to
include in Press Kit.....(that we give numerous organizations,
reporters, etc.
Please let me know if anyone is interested.

*Meta Page*
Could someone volunteer to create a page like the following on meta?
Gathering information for the press kit, and would like to have a
section where people can add their stories regarding how Wikimedia
projects has positively influenced their life....maybe they learned a
foreign language through Wikibooks, maybe there is a school that used
our educational resources, etc.
The page should like like: http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Wikia:Our_stories
Also, it should be linked from the ComProj page :)

*Conflict Resolution*
Would someone be interested in creating a flier that addresses conflict
resolution, how to handle a complaint...steps people should take,
section on Corporate Conflict Resolution page that was created....Ie,
when non-versed people have problem, what are the vehicles they can use
to report problem and ask for help. Also to be included in press kit.
Hey ComProj,
Is anyone interested in helping out with researching possible donors for
Wikimedia Foundation? Both Foundations that give grants, and worldwide
philanthropist? (I'm thinking of creating a document on google where we
can list people/organizations)
Sandy
Just to remind everyone, we have a meeting at 2030 UTC - we'd love for
as many of comproj as possible to attend in #wikimedia-cpg on freenode
IRC.
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
As a result of Sandy's email-before-last, I've created <
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Success_Stories_-_How_has_Wikimedia_Changed_…>,
where contributors to, and viewers of, Wikimedia projects can share their
stories. Take a look there for details :-)
I've left messages in a couple of places to publicise it:
* On the village pump equivalents of all the English language projects (and
meta, in Metapub)
* On Meta's home page
* On the foundation-l and wikien-l lists (awaiting moderation methinks)
Spread the word!

Guys,
I really need help compiling our press list - which is the backbone of
any organization. I have the list in google documents, and would
appreciate if each of you spent even an hour or two a week.....thats
really like 20 hours a week, if everybody took part :)
Let me know if you are interested, and I'll send you an invitation to
edit the google document :)
cheers,
Sandy
