Hello all,
Tonight we had a very successful IRC meeting in the ComProj IRC
channel and I think that several decisions were reached that should
help the future of the group. I will detail these below. Because not
all members were present, please feel free to give your comments on
the list here, and if you disagree with the conclusions we drew,
please say so.
The first item was ComProj's current membership roster. I pointed out
that the private spreadsheet containing the information provided when
people join ComProj was a bit pointless as it remained private and so
we agreed it should be put on meta. However, it does contain some
confidential information, namely e-mail addresses, real names and some
brief real life bios. Since we do not want to offend anyone, I intend
to filter these out until I get confirmation from individuals that
they are happy with their information being listed. I will keep you
informed about how I get along with this.
The next item was ComProj's organisation. schiste suggested that we
get people involved with the group as project managers and just that -
people who may not really be appropriate for doing projects
themselves. He said that lots of people who do communications work do
not like project management, so this would allow them to just get on
with their specialisation. schiste volunteered to try to find a pool
of project leaders from across Wikimedia. Please let him know if you
are interested.
We now hope to have projects being assigned leaders (the idea is that
co-ordinators (me, Sandy, Cary) will do this) and then work can begin.
I aim to do some restructuring of our pages on meta tomorrow so that
this can be slotted in. Hopefully, this will mean that people will get
chance to work at something they really want to do and projects can be
completed in a more timely manner.
As chair I will still be trying to pull stuff together by arranging
and organanising meetings and attempting to liaise between project
leaders etc. which I think is working reasonably well. It should be
made clear that even though we now have three layers of co-ordinators,
project leaders and members, everyone within ComProj is most
definately equal - it's just that we are doing different jobs.
Managing a project, for example, is a skill in the same way graphics
designing or writing is.
Again, please feel free to offer comments. I will be updating you as I
work on our pages on meta, which I would hope we start to use more.

This is a fabulous idea.....wikipedians going around asking normal
users, and taking their pic with a note. I love it....
I think some wikinews people might like this too :)

As you all may know, the 2007 Fall Fundraiser will begin on October 22.
This year, we would like to gather pics and videos, submitted by users,
that describe either:
Why they love Wikipedia and/or how Wikipedia has changed their life.
We would like to have a test run, and are asking volunteers that work
directly with the Foundation to submit pics to Flickr and videos to
Youtube, with the tag [Wiki Love]. It would be much appreciated if you
guys could submit a pic or video by the end of next week. Since this is
an idea we are still testing out, please do not "spread the word" until
a final decision has been reached.
We're still exploring what kind of format that might work best for this
- e.g., do we want people to hold up their favorite wikimedia page to
the camera, or hold up a piece of paper with something written on it. So
please experiment a little with us, and we'll update as soon as a
consensus has been reached.
Also, I would love your feedback. If you have any ideas on how to
improve this project, I would love to hear them. I would even love for a
discussion to take place on comproj (the shock I know) to see how well
we can discuss things via the mailing list ( a few of you thought this
would be a good idea).
(FYI - Please pick a free license when using Flickr)
Thanks,
Sandy
All,
Just a quick reminder that the meeting is in #wikimedia-cpg in about
an hour and twenty minutes from now. We do not have any agenda items,
but I think Sandy and I would like to talk a little about ComProj
organisation and recruitment following this week's promotional
mailing.
Thanks,
Sean
So in case we have something in Cuba or something in Spanish that no one
else is available to help with... :-)

Well, you could always join/subscribe the mailingl ist and if we ever need
something in Spanish or to do with Cuba, you can step on in! (or anything
else you might be able to help with).

Hey all,
I have had an idea for the gathering of things to discuss at the
meeting - let's just use a wiki...
I will keep pinging the list on a weekly basis for the purposes of
reminding you all, but please put some things together here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Communication_Projects_Group/Meetings/2007-0…
Would love to see as many ComProj members as possible there, but don't
worry if you cannot attend.
Thanks,
Sean
Hey all,
Let's get going again with ComProj activity. We have lots of things
that need to be discussed.
Please send me agenda items for next week's meeting so that we can be
organised to get through all the stuff.
Thanks,
Sean
Hello
I am very surprised at seeing the below:
Other requests from Transcom
* 6 August 2007: Translation requests/Wikipedia IRC guidelines
* 22 July 2007: Translation requests/WMFnews
* 19 July 2007: Translation requests/WMF/Current staff
* 12 July 2007: Board elections/2007/Results
* 21 April 2007: Translation requests/Benefactors
....
And this request was created by Greeves.
I recommended Greeves to submit his request to Babylon but never
encourage him or her to behave in such a manner. He has no good
reason to speak in the name of Transcom, more over assign higher
prioirity to his favorite document than Wikimedia Foundaition website.
I don't know Greeves so I don't know why he is so boldly acting. I
would like to make it sure ComProjGroup has no right to act under
Communications Subcommitee name without their agreement.
I don't received mails from this list, so cc would be appreciated.
I reduced the request status to new, not open, to remove it from the list.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hey folks,
Just as a reminder, and to be sure everyone understand. The
Communication Projects Group is not a committee. Committees and
sub-committees, as the Communication Committe and the Translation
Committee (wich is a ComCom sub committee) have been approved by the
board. We haven't. Therefor we have no official right to ask for job
to be done.
Please keep this in your head it's REALLY important.
Thanks all :)
