Hello all!
We are entering our fifth week at Winedale. Things are going well--we have a hard-working group. Though no former students are in the class, our former Camp Shakespeare students, Noelle Alexander and Sophie Steinhauser, have helped set the standard and pace for our work. The students are throwing themselves into the plays and making discoveries hourly.
Please let me introduce Emma Watkins, who is copied here. She is the new Program Coordinator for Shakespeare at Winedale. Emma just graduated with an MFA in playwriting from UT's Department of Theatre and Dance. She also holds a BA in English, Theatre, and Environmental Studies from Princeton University. As a Fulbright Fellow, she received her MA in Welsh and Celtic Studies from Cardiff University.
Emma hit the ground running and came to Winedale on July 4th to help with the festivities. She has never participated in Shakespeare at Winedale as a student but is eager to meet you all and hear stories from the past 54 years. You will have the chance to meet her under the tent in front of the Theatre Barn when you come to see our performances.
I'd like for those of you with digital pics of Bob Jones to share them with us. Our summer performances will be dedicated to James but we want to honor Bob Jones as well and I would love to have pictures of him for the vestibule.
Much love and thanks to you all. Sharing your notes with the students on their arrival was a big success and I'm grateful to all those that answered the call.
Also, a huge thanks to Doc, and Jeff and Will Larsen for helping with our workday at the Theatre Barn. Their work creating a new tool space in the barn helped us launch new projects.
David and Mike, will you please add Emma to the various listservs?
I'm in the dining hall at Winedale watching the wind from Beryl blow the rain sideways. We are safe and well and enjoying the lovely snacks that so many of you have shared.
Enough, hold or cut bow-strings.

Welcome Emma! What an impressive background you have.
And, Laurel, what a lovely tribute to Bob this photo album is; thank you for sending. I saw Bob play Hamlet back in 2005 when James brought the summer class to SMU for a one-night production of the play (you remember!). The play was wonderful and Bob was already beloved, thriving under James’ leadership.

I didn't have the luck to work with Bob at Winedale, but I did get to play Malvolio to his Sir Andrew in a wonderful production of Twelfth Night in May/June 2014. I've attached some photos from that production.
I'd like for those of you with digital pics of Bob Jones to share them with

Welcome Emma! Great to have you on the team.
Madge, your note about Beryl made me think about our hurricane experiences in the summer of ’83 with Alicia. Here’s a photo I snapped in August of that summer, in which the program’s future director checks out the Houston paper for the latest news as we make preparations…
