Betsy had a ferocious, courageous heart, and was a great friend to everything and everyone connected to Shakespeare at Winedale, including Camp Shakespeare and Outreach and the AFTLS fall performances. When she fixed her gaze on you and told you something in that deep, husky voice, you listened and took heed. I do indeed remember how much the 2000 reunion meant to her, and I'll never forget her surprise poem for Doc and all of us in our final circle outside the Barn before the performance. It was a triumphant moment.
Anyone who knew Betsy both worried about her and adored her and wished for her to find happiness. Most remarkable to me was that through all her struggles and ups and downs she never stopped seeking ways to give to others, to help others realize their dreams.
James, thanks for letting everyone know, and I look forward to honoring Betsy's life and spirit at Winedale this summer.
Love to all,
cs

Hello friends,
I am afraid I have to pass along some sad news about an old Winedaler. Betsy Beyer Hadlock (summer 1981) died a couple of months ago in Dallas; her family posted this news on her Facebook page last week. I really don't have too much information beyond what they state there. My sister managed to find a police report indicating that she was found in her condo and the cause of death was listed as unknown. Betsy had struggled a lot with mental illness for several years.
Betsy loved Shakespeare and Winedale as much as she loved anything in her life. I'm sure anyone who was in the 2000 reunion class with her will remember how much it meant to her. We will do something to memorialize her this summer at Winedale. Tomorrow would have been her birthday, so please have her in your thoughts.
Thanks, James
